I wanted to do a mid-year check in with everyone to be sure you all have been getting on the water or plan to get to some of the Class' summer events. As you may imagine there's a lot going on behind the scenes and I owe a tremendous amount of thanks to my fellow Officers and reps who have done the heavy lifting to get us to this point. The officers and regional reps meet monthly to discuss the Class activity and how to improve the experience for everyone. To that end we have 8 regattas between now and the end of August for both East and West Coast boats including NAs/Canadian Champs in Kingston, Ont. (CORK). And at least 4 additional regattas in the fall. I personally plan to do several of these (as do many others) and hope you all can do so too
https://usa505.org/schedule/ .If you are sailing the NAs, ECCs, or WCCs you need to be a class member
https://usa505.org/membership/ so if not already current, please do so. Of note, sept 26-28 we'll be doing a training day and regatta at ABYC. Why's this important? Only because it will be the site of the 2027 Worlds (pending approval). Great way to preview the racetrack and a perfect excuse to visit Long Beach. The planning starts early so please think about events you'd like to do and get the logistics in order. On another note, one initiative we've embarked on is enlisting the professional media coverage of Lexi Pline. She's a very well known figure in the sailing media world and after discussions with her, she'll be covering some of our key events this summer- PCCs and NAs. She has already been posting written and video content on our Instagram page
https://www.instagram.com/505_class/ . To that end, part of this initiative is to spread awareness of the Class in an effort to recruit new sailors and cajole current ones to get to a regatta or more. Lexi is producing her own footage but the Class is looking for Regional Media Coordinators to collect footage/stories and share with her so her coverage can be just that much better. This is a great way to be involved and anyone is encouraged to do so- particularly if you are savvy with social media and this comes effortlessly, like winning regattas is to some of us. Reach out to a regional rep or Class officer if this is of interest and you want to know more. Thanks for listening. So please join the class and make it a goal to sail some events this year. Happy to answer questions and I’ll plan to see you at an event or more!
