The Dennis Surtees Service Award - 2009

sailors who have distinguished themselves by providing outstanding
service to the American Section. For decades, Dennis Surtees optimized
505 sailing in the United States both with his performance and his
contributions to the class. Dennis represents everything that was and
still is great about the class and it’s leadership.
After reviewing the nominations received from class members the
National Exective Committee has voted to present the 2009 award to
Tyler Moore.
Tyler's long and dedicated effort to grow the class epitomizes
everything the Surtees award stands for. Tyler's passion and love for
the class has touched countless new members and has benefited all in
numerous ways. On top of this work, Tyler also demonstrated
outstanding leadership and recently finished not one but TWO terms as
American Section president. He has also worked hard to find any means
necessary to get additional boats into the States (even taking on the
role of US Rondar importer) when the previous importer moved on to
other interests. On a local level, Tyler has been extremely generous
with his time and gear often donating new gear and sails to college
sailors and sponsoring numerous coaching sessions. He is true to the
class tradition of sharing new ideas and helping all to raise their
game. It is with great honor that we award Tyler the Dennis Surtees
Service Award for 2009.
