Dear 505 friends,

As you all know a new AGM is coming up on Tuesday 26 September. As usual, decisions about where the coming World Championships will be held is on the agenda. Since many years we have had a well working guide-line that every second year the worlds are held in Europe and every second year outside Europe. The Swedish fleet and many others have seen this as a good compromise.

This year Bermuda is applying for the worlds in 2020. That is the year after the Worlds in Freemantle, Australia, 2019 and thus this would disrupt the order European/non-European location. When the Swedish 505 Association realized that there was no bid from any other European country, we acted to be able to propose a World Championship in Sweden already 2020. If there had been a French or southern Europe proposal we would have waited until 2022. The Bermuda proposal should from our point of view be seen as a proposal for the 2021 Worlds.

The presentation from Båstad is attached to this email and it can also be found (in English) via the Swedish Facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/int505sweden/
We appreciate if you share that Facebook post.

It can also be found on the address:

In addition there is a video, presenting Båstad as a sailing city:

We strongly feel that it is important for the development of the class in Europe that we keep the scheme and sail the Worlds in Europe in 2020. We hope that you share this opinion and we hope that you who attend the AGM speaks in favour of it. We also hope for your support for the Worlds 2020 in Båstad, Sweden. Last time the Worlds was sailed in Sweden was in 2003, in Malmö. To be able to make the very best preparation it would be truly beneficial to start the preparations right now, which means that we need a definite decision at this years AGM, just like Freemantle got the decision already last year in Weymouth, three years ahead.

An early decision also means that the northern European fleets (at least SWE, DEN, FIN) can use this in their PR for the class over the coming years.

505-greetings to all of you,
