The Chair of Ukrainian Studies at the University of Ottawa is launching an online seminar series devoted to scholars in Ukraine, or displaced abroad by the war. The series is an opportunity to continue the Danyliw Serminar, which had been held annually on uOttawa campus between 2005-2019, before being paused by the pandemic.

The first Danyliw Online Seminar Ukrainian Scholars in Times of War will be held on Friday, April 8, at 11 am Eastern Time/6 pm Ukraine Time and will feature 5 Ukrainian scholars:

--Maryna Zelynska, from Mariupol State University, a political scientist displaced to Kropyvnytskyi in Central Ukraine since mid-March;

--Tania Kalenychenko, from Drahomanov State University in Kyiv, displaced from Irpin near Kyiv and currently engaged in humanitarian aid;

--Olena Muradyan, from Karazin University in Kharkiv, displaced to Poltava weeks into the war, now caring for her sociology students;

--Yuri Shapoval, a historian at the Institute of Ethnic and Political Studies in Kyiv, displaced from Bucha early in the war and currently in Germany;

--Sofia Dyak, director of the Centre for Urban History in Lviv, hosting more than 50 displaced scholars engaged in a oral history project of the war;

The event will be co-moderated by Mayhill Fowler (Stetson University, US) and Daria Mattingly (University of Cambridge, UK), from the Danyliw Seminar Selection Committee. Dominique Arel, who holds the Chair of Ukrainian Studies at the Univesity of Ottawa, will deliver introductory remarks.

The Danyliw Foundation, the Danyliw Seminar Team, the Chair of Ukrainian Studies (faculty and students), with the support of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Ottawa, wish to express their unconditional solidarity with the people of Ukraine in their resistance against the Russian war of aggression, and condemn the systematic targeting of civilians, as well as of civilian, economic, historic and military infrastructure in Ukraine.
