Honestly.. not hating.. but I am not blown away at all.. Seems like you've gotta squint to see the diff.

Did you see that fidelity? Russ looked good in the opening, and the lighting is great, but the grass looked choppy and the player's feet didn't look like they sank into the grass at all, if that's what I was supposed to see. In the end, the biggest selling point of the Next Gen Madden for me is that EA seems to be worrying about it more than the current gen. But that's just the feeling I have, not necessarily based in fact.

I think it's funny that some of us are still thinking that there will be a patch for the current gen version that will do anything significant. Next gen Madden worries the shit out of me. Wish I could be optimistic, but I just worry that legacy issues will somehow work their way into next gen. When these issues get combined with having to get things ironed out for new hardware, I think you'll see a serious shit salad.

Madden 13 patch 1 = 8/28

Madden 13 patch 2 = 9/11

Madden 13 patch 3 = 10/16

Madden 13 patch 4 = 11/28

We got a day one patch for 25 that solved a few game breaking issues (freezing and disappearing players) but we're already several weeks behind on the patch schedule from last year. I haven't heard anything about a patch and I think they're all hands on deck for the next gen version. I DO think it's weird they're developing the game on a ship.

Did your question on twitter get answered? I know Todd thinks there is a magic patch coming, but I will believe it when I see it. EA are pushing big on new hardware, and they have invested heavily in IGNITE, they want to see a return. This generation of Madden is roster updates from now on, Madden XV or whatever way they will want to dress it up.

I don't think we know much of anything about how they're sorting their team as far as current versus next gen.  That's just an assumption (but a fair one).

Also, every game is different. It makes zero sense to compare title update schedules between these game iterations.  They did jack shit for Madden 12.  They did well with Madden 13.  They're behind on Madden 25 while wrapping up a next-gen game.  We don't know when that ships or how close they are, but that stuff tends to end earlier than gamers seem to think.

Don't be a PastaPadre and try to connect dots too much.  That's a waste of time, really.  It'll come eventually, but not soon enough!

Was the reason nothing was done for Madden 12 because of the turnover in staff?

Except that there will be current Gen Maddens for years to come.  80 million install base will not be ignored.  Next Gen install base is zero right now.  They have to have an infrastructure in place for current Gen that will be there for years to come.

Yeah, maybe.  Let's not forget that they're undergoing shit with the merging of the NCAA and Madden teams, with some folks outright losing their jobs, Owen says 10%.  That probably has a bigger impact.  But the losses aren't THAT different from a post-launch loss at a developer (which is why that story was overstated as well).

I don't have to squint really. Looks much improved from my vantage point. The Superdome in particular looks terrific, which isn't something I've been able to say about the domes in the past (they were all kind of flat in ugly). From the sound of it, the AI will be much better in the next-gen versions as well, so I'm hoping for more intelligent blocking than in the current-gen version (which is what they highlighted at E3).

The more I think about it, the more I realize that I do look at players' faces behind the facemask and wish they looked a little better. That's kind of exciting, honestly, even if it's only like, 25 players that look really well done and the rest are still kinda crap.

Yeah they focus really hard on the well known plauers. Its too much money to make all of them.. also performance inhibitive.

I dont think madden team will be hurt at all by these layoffs. If anything, they may be helped because NCAA might have some superstars that EA just could not let go and havd to put them on something.

I expect that impact to be seen next year. Crossing fingers.

Wrong. My understanding is the new game won't have the current gen bugs. That shit is going to be somewhat tight. But there will be issues. We're all play-testers. And then patches solve it all.

"We're all play-testers. And then patches solve it all. "

From the bestie of one of the lead's of the game. And one of the game's writers.

It goes without saying, that this discussion need not (nor SHOULD IT) leave this e-mail thread, but it's a major bummer.

While I'm down on the game (READ: Defense), I'm NOT down on the league, or any of you legends. 'Seat and I just went back and forth on painting. This league is growing up together.

And I'm coming to LA/Tahoe/Vegas/SF for Xmas.

4th String MEET UP TIME!

I'd rather hear it from someone in or near the games business anyways.  Kind of shitty to point out Todd's affiliation then go on with your opinion like it means any more.  By "kind of" I mean "totally."  You know Todd, so you should know better.  Just saying!

Yeah, but your opinion holds a lot more SWAGGER than most.

Regardless, FUCK IT!

This is league is always a blast, no matter how pooperiffic the game is.

Note: I know it sounds that way, but I'm not saying anyone else's opinion means any LESS either.  Just that the only promotional bone in Zuniga's no-trans-fat body is for LDM, and by now we're all pretty familiar with that.

And I totally appreciate it, too.

But ATZ generally has an inside track on info from the team.

So do you and Rich Grish as well, I guess.

One funny thing I've noticed with the Madden team, is they are usually unwilling to 'admit' to bugs/glitches until the next game in the cycle. BAH! WHATEVER!

More importantly, who cares. Let's work on getting our list of things to tweak (twerk?) in week 2.

Christmas with the (future) Father-in-Law. 1 week in LA, 1 week in Tahoe/Vegas, then a road trip to beautiful San Fran.

Oh, San Fran, how I missed thee. It's been far, far too long.

I'm getting my hands on next-gen Madden (and FIFA) in NYC on Friday. Very interested to see how it looks and plays. Obviously with 30 minutes I won't get a super in-depth feel but it should be much much more than I saw at E3 and since it's one on one I should be able to ask lots of questions about it.

Crossing my fingers!
