You’ve seen the basic facts, but now, (as Paul Harvey used to say) “here's the rest of the story”:
The Redford Theatre is proud to announce another special event that will take place at the theatre this month. On Tuesday, May 15 at 7:00 pm, the Redford will join over 450 specially selected venues from around the country to present singer/songwriter Michael Bolton’s celebration of the golden age of Detroit: American Dream: Detroit. It’s a love letter from Motor City stars chronicling the greatest turnaround in American history, featuring its native entertainment legends like Francis Ford Coppola, Jerry Bruckheimer, Aretha Franklin, Smokey Robinson, Alice Cooper, John Varvatos, Mitch Albom and many more — and reveals the landscape of the new Detroit being built by young visionaries, as well as entrepreneurial moguls.
Fathom Events and Passion Films are bringing this feature-length documentary on the 21st Century Renaissance of the Motor City to the big screen for one night only. Though it will be seen on hundreds of screens around the country, including a couple of others in the Metro-Detroit area, Michael Bolton has chosen the Redford Theatre for his only live on stage introduction to the film.
It was exactly a year ago that the Redford Theatre was selected as one of the select venues to screen “12th and Clairmount”, the gritty documentary about the 1967 Detroit riots. Since those days, the story of Detroit’s turnaround has remained until now, largely obscured by mainstream media's preference to portray only the devastation of the city’s downfall. The comeback of Detroit is poised to be the greatest turnaround story of American history. American Dream: Detroit illustrates why the history and future of Detroit matters in the global landscape. This is the story of the American Dream told through the eyes of Bolton’s own discovery. “This documentary is a truly inspiring tale of a city’s historical transformation that is certain to entertain, educate and move fans coast to coast,” said Fathom Events CEO Ray Nutt.
