How you can help Obama win PA with even a few calls

Hi everyone,

 

As some of you in the 43rd know, our former Obama for America staffer, Sameer Ranade, has been working as a youth organizer in Pennsylvania, helping to turn that must-win swing state blue. We'll likely be pitching in to make buttons to send to Pennsylvania, Florida, and other crucial states this fall, but in the meanwhile, you can help by recruiting eager college students from Penn State--which can help carry the entire center of the state for Obama:

Here's Sameer's request and call script:

Hi - thank you so much for your help with these calls. The people who we are calling are Penn State Students as of last April, and in some manner (whether by signing up at an event or volunteering), they have expressed an interest in the Obama campaign. The purpose of these calls is two-fold: 1) We need to identify the students that are interested in volunteering when they return to school in the fall; 2) We need to find out which of these students will be living at a new address so we can re-register them to vote; Please update your calls in the google document as you make them, in order to avoid duplicate calling. Also, please remember that most of these folks are on east coast time. Calling them is appropriate anytime from 4:30-9:00 p.m. Eastern Time (1:30 p.m.-6:00 p.m. Pacific time), Monday-Friday, and 1:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. Eastern Time (10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. Pacific time) on the weekends. If you have any questions, please call Sameer at 206-276-3444. I'm always wake, so don't worry about calling late. The script and an explanation how to mark the calls is given below:

Hey _________, my name is ________ I'm volunteering on Barack Obama's campaign at Penn State, and I'm calling to see if you are interested in helping out on the campaign in the fall?

If yes

 

Awesome.  Let me quickly update your information so I can pass it along to your local organizer.  Is __________________ the address where you will be living on election day November 4^th?

               If yes:  Great and is this the best number to reach you at?       

If no:  Oh ok well please update your voter registration with one of the students for Obama volunteers with your campus address this fall

If they say no,

 

That's alright do you mind if I make sure we have the right voter registration information for you so I don't bother you again.

Ø     Is ___________________ the address where you'll be living on election day, this November 4^th?

           

If they don't know yet where they will be living, please indicate that in the column 'G' which identifies those who need to re-register

Other notes:

If someone says that they want to volunteer, you can let them know that they will be receiving a phone call from me in August to follow up with them.

 

In the 'Will they volunteer/call status column, mark your calls with the following codes

 

Y=yes for will volunteer

N=no for won't volunteer

LM=left message

NH=note home

WN=wrong number

DC=disconnected number

RF=refused to talk

CB=call back

BZ=busy

LG=language

SP=spanish
