I'm sure other people do this already, but I've recently started
tagging things I want to buy with "wishlist" in them.

I don't like the Amazon wishlist so much, because its only one shop.
Using del.icio.us lets me (and others) check things from all over the
place that I want, making it ripe for present-picking.

I find it works pretty well.

Places I like to "shop" at regularly go under "shopping" and things I
want to buy get wishlist'ed. If you want to get fancy, you could
wishlist items from your Amazon (or other vendor) wishlist as a
del.icio.us wishlist item, so you would benefit from the Amazon "I know
this individual's shipping information," magic.

This is a great idea!

I am sensing the next O'Reilly book, "Del.icio.us Hacks." ;)

I use delicious in a number of ways. A related idea that I do is keep my
"to listen" and "to read" lists up to date via delicious. As I come
across articles that I want to read but don't have time, I just tag it
(via the javascript bookmarklet) with the to_read tag. Ditto for
anything audio related.

Because del.icio.us exposes your data as RSS feeds, you just need to
point whatever RSS thingy you like to use at these tags, and tada! you
always have an up-to-date list of yummy things for your brain.

This works very well in a GTD context. Allen always recommends have a
reading pile to productively use "weird time", and this solves that
problem nicely.

The audio is particularly nice on those weekend mornings when I am
working around the house. I tote my wifi laptop from room to room with
me listening to any manner of interesting interviews, speeches, and
music while I take care of chores.
