I too am on a quest for a great printer that can handle 3x5 notecards.

I've come across the HL-5250DN by Brother.

Newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16828113212
Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000BQ535K

I would like some opinions as to the quality of this printer. I am very
impressed by its capabilities.

The HL-5250DN's can Duplex. If it can handle 3x5 cards AND print on
both sides, I'd be set.

Does anyone have one?
Are you satisfied with the printer?

All input is appreciated.

Thank you

I'm definitely interested in this topic. I was hoping Dymo would offer
a printer that prints just 3 x 5 cards, but no luck. :( I'd buy that
kind of printer in a heartbeat.

I found this guy's review here:

He references 43 folders, so maybe this topic is a rehash...

Yeah, Merlin's covered the IP3000 before. I have the IP2000 and find it
adequate, though it can't do borderless so it's not as good as the
3000.
No experience with the HP, so I'm just going to relurk and see what
others say. It definitely sounds interesting, especially duplex.

I can't comment on this but I can comment on a Canon Pixma IP4200 as I
bought one from Amazon fro a shade over £50. It prints on 5x3 cards.
They are too thick to duplex though. The inks are about £10 each, of
which there are 4 plus an extra black, which is larger. I believe that
the 4300 is the replacement model.

I had hoped that my HP 1300 might be able to print to 5 x 3 cards but
sadly it can't.

I have a Brother HL-5250DN at work.  Great printer.  I print out mostly research papers, documentation, etc., and it's very fast and sharp.  I haven't figured out how to make the duplexer work from the Mac driver, which is a bummer, but I should probably go check for an update.  I imagine it works fine if you're a Windows user.

Power draw is a bit peaky (makes my flourescent lights dim, and sometimes trips the UPS on the neighboring outlet (no, I don't run the printer off the UPS!)).

I have not attempted any unusual paper size with it, however, let alone 3x5 notecards.  If it worked, I suspect it would be a very good printer for notecards from an information density standpoint, as its output is very legible at small font sizes.

I suggest reviewing the manual for information on handling of other paper sizes and cardstock.  You can download it here: http://tinyurl.com/y69k9b

I have a Brother-5170DN (which I think is the same printer, previous
version of the one referenced above. It prints on 3x5 index cards from

Thank you for your message.

Yes, the HL-5250DN can handle 3x5 notecards.

We also recommend that you use the fold down mp tray
and adjust the driver for Thick Paper for this type of
media.
