All right, this one is a bit tricky. I'm hoping someone's able to help!

I'm trying to send emails to a large number of contacts in my address book,
and some of those contacts are lists (such as yahoo groups). Every time I do
this, I have to work around the following:

- When sending with another ISP (California.Com) SMTP server, my current ISP
(Comcast) refuses to relay *some* emails ("relaying denied"), forcing me to
resend them when they show up as denied an hour later.
- When sending with my current ISP (Comcast) SMTP server, it refuses to send
*some* emails ("permit denied") -- which could also be because obscure email
quotas -- forcing me to resend with my Gmail's SMTP server.
- Yahoo Groups doesn't like that I send emails to all these yahoo addresses
or yahoo groups at once, forcing me to resend a number of times. And
sometimes, Yahoo Groups just doesn't send the message at all.

I really need something more reliable than all of this.

I can send everything via Gmail's SSL SMTP server, but it also means that
people (and lists) receive their emails with my gmail address in the "from"
field, which lists don't like (I'm subscribed to the lists with another
email account).

Some ideas I have:

- Another SSL SMTP server that will let me use whatever email address I want
in the From field
- My own local SMTP server (not sure if that will help)
- A third party list manager to take care of all of this without the
restrictions I'm experiencing.

Thanks,

Philippe

I think Gmail lets you change the address your email is coming from.

How do I customize the 'From:' address on outgoing mail?
If you'd like your outgoing Gmail messages to display another one of
your email addresses in the 'From:' field (instead of your Gmail
address), just follow these easy steps:

1. Log in to your Gmail account.
2. Click 'Settings' along the top of any page, and then select the
'Accounts' tab.
3. Click 'Add another email address' in the 'Send mail as:' section.
4. Enter your full name in the 'Name:' field, and the email address
you'd like to send messages from in the 'Email address:' field.

*Keep in mind that each time someone replies to a message you
send using a custom 'From:' address, the reply will be delivered to the
'From:' address rather than your Gmail address. If you'd like replies
to be delivered to another account, you'll need to enter a 'reply-to'
address. Just click 'Specify a different reply-to address' to enter
this information.

5. Click 'Next Step >>,' and then click 'Send Verification' to
complete the process. Gmail will send a verification message to your
other email address to confirm that you'd like to add it to your Gmail
account. You'll need to click the link in that message, or enter the
confirmation code in the 'Accounts' section of your Gmail account, to
complete the process. Once you've verified that you'd like to add the
address to your account, you can start sending messages using your
custom 'From:' address.

Tip: If you have a number of different email addresses, enter all of
them in your Gmail account, and then select a different address to send
each of your messages from, depending on what you're sending.

Idon't know if this will solve the problems, but I use a program called
send personally. I use it all the time to send email to a large number
of recipients. They are normally individuals, but you can try it out
for free and see if it works. The recipient sees only their email
address, so it appears that you have sent it only to them.

I'm sorry I don't have the url but you can google Send Personally.

If you are sending to many people and many lists all at once.... the
only usage pattern I can think of that normally acts in this way is spam
- I hope that's not what you are doing.

In Usenet, people who regularly post to many different groups are
chastised and people change headers to force followups to *one* group
instead of a vast number...

If you really have a valid reason for that many mails, create a list....
