I'm looking for a small notebook to serve as my Ubiquitous Capture Tool.  The David sells one (http://www.davidco.com/store/catalog/NoteTaker-Wallet-in-Black-with-Accessories-p-16167.php ), but it's a little pricy for me. I also don't need the Rotring pen, as I have a small collapsible pen already. I was wondering if anyone had seen anything small like this that could double as a wallet. Levenger has something similar ( http://www.levenger.com/PAGETEMPLATES/PRODUCT/Product.asp?Params=Category=322-338|PageID=2287|Level=2-3# ) but it doesn't have the pockets for credit cards (I'm also not crazy about the double pen loop).

Any ideas?

I suggest Levenger's International Briefcase (http://www.levenger.com/PAGETEMPLATES/PRODUCT/Product.asp?Params=Category=11-76|PageID=2269|Level=2-3 ) or the Flip Pocket Briefcase (http://www.levenger.com/PAGETEMPLATES/PRODUCT/Product.asp?Params=Category=11-76|PageID=2458|Level=2-3 ) which is similar to a reporter's notebook. I have both and like both, although the International model includes a pen holder that the Flip model doesn't. A Zebra telescoping pen or Fisher Space Pen fit nicely in the pen slip.

Hope that helps!

Having used the Levenger Circa system for many years, I took a bunch of
3x5 index cards and punched with with the Circa punch and then ran some
rings through them. The cards can be replenished easily, and the used
cards can be placed inside a circa notebook for storage and review.

Works well. The only thing that's missing is covers. I'm thinking of
cutting up one of the notebook covers, but it would be nice to have it
in leather.

I picked up a Tornado / Retro 51 that does the job. Gave one to the
wife, as well. I can't tell any difference between it and the
NoteTaker. I do use the NoteTaker refills, as they are cheap and well
suited. I paid $25 or so in a Manhattan stationary store and use it
with a space pen.

Johnston & Murphy:

Retro Tornado (different link than, but seems to be the same product):

Levenger:
http://www.levenger.com/PAGETEMPLATES/PRODUCT/Product.asp?Params=Category=322-338|PageID=2287|Level=2-3

They're all fairly close in price, around $35. It looks like the main difference is the numbe of credit card pockets. The Levenger one has none, just a pocket for notes. The Johnston & Murphy has 3, and the Tornado has 4. I would ideally like this to double as a wallet (front pocket), so I am kind of leaning towards the Tornado. Is it small enough to be used in that manner comfortably? I seldom carry cash, so that's not much of a concern.

Also, does anyone own the Johnston and Murphy one? What's your opinion of it?

Thanks in advance.

I've actually been meaning to post about this for a while.  I was recently looking for "the perfect" wallet, too.  I looked at DavidCo's wallet, and like it except for the hefty price tag.  I looked around for something that offered the same features for a smaller price, agreeing to make the investment if I couldn't find anything.  I followed people's advice on this and other GTD forums and looked at Levenger and others, never quite finding exactly what I was looking for.  Then one day I was in Office Depot and found the wallet of my dreams for a lowly $15!

Its from Franklin Covey (oh the sacrilege) and is called the "Task List" wallet.  Of course, now that I'm looking for it, I can't find a copy of it online, but trust me it exists.  It's about 3.5" x 6.5 " and has a deep slot for bills, 3-4 credit card slots, a clear cutout for your license/ID, and a nice spot that my Fisher Space Bullet pen fits perfectly into.  The side opposite the credit cards & license holds a stack of about 10 Franklin Covey task list cards (so complicated!).  Luckily, these cards aren't anything more than fancy 3x5 cards, which are what populate my wallet now.

I did find something online that MIGHT be this wallet, but without a more thorough description or more pictures I can't be sure (http://www.buyonlinenow.com/viewproduct.asp?sku=FDP18698 ).  Maybe its an instore only kind of thing.  So next time you find yourself in Office Depot, take a look in the Franklin Covey planner section for this wallet.  If you can find this thing, maybe you'll be as happy as I am!

I've actually seen that  a couple of times. I'm looking for something a bit smaller though, since anything that holds 3x5 cards tends to be too big to fit in a front pocket comfortably.

I use "handy jotters" which are small enough to fit in my shirt pocket, and which have 50 sheets of lined paper with a stiff card backing sheet and an outer cover.  These cost 19 pence from Wilkinsons (a general store).

I'm using the moleskine cahier and the fisher space pen, started
carying them in sep 05, had great success. They both are easy to carry
and fit in a pocket.

Its one and the same.  Funny, I kept seeing and ignoring that item listed at several web sites, when looking for an item that matched my wallet.  They need better pictures!  At least one showing the wallet folded open!

Just an update, for anyone following this thread. I ended up buying two, the Retro Tornado ( http://www.paradisepen.com/paradise/product.asp?dept_id=3397&pf_id=PAAAAAMLKIHMPGOA&ad_id=cs&key_id=Retro51EliteTravelerBlackWalletw/Pen), and  another one ( http://www.coloradopen.com/ShowView/product/2692/562) that looked like the Johnson & Murphy, but without the snap closure (which I didn't want).

After looking at both, I've decided to keep the Retro, and return the other as it was too small. The retro seems to be almost exactly the same size as the David Allen one, and the pen is nice. I did order the DA notepad refills though, as the notepad that came with the Retro is lame.

Thanks for the advice everyone!
