Dear All,

I'm making a re-commitment to GTD and trying to use it with Evernote.

For Evernote users, can you give me a general outline . . .

I'm creating folders that correspond with areas of work and projects.
My tags seem pretty similar. Actually fewer of them. I'm not using
attributes at all.

How many folders are you using?

How many tags?

Any general thoughts that would help work with this tool? any real
"ah-hah!" experiences you could share?

Sincerely,

Ridge

I only use Evernote for storing stuff digitally. For managing actions
and contexts I use OmniFocus (recent convert from Things).

Same here, I have started to use Evernote to store "support material" and I create a new notebook for every project (most of them, as needed).

At least to me, Curio (Mac OS X native app), seems better to me than
Evernote. So I've not understood why it's not mentioned on 43F.

Curio looks very nice, and I may at least download it to try, but I
guess the big advantage Evernote has over Curio is price. Evernote is
free if you don't need a ridiculous amount of storage space. Curio
Pro is $149, and even the Standard version is $99. Also, since my
home machine is a Mac and my work machine is a PC, the fact that
Evernote is cross-platform is a big selling point. I couldn't tell
from the quick look I took, but does Curio store in the cloud?
Evenote is web-based, so I can get to my material anyplace I can get
to a computer.

Evernote is also available on Android, blackberry and iPhone as well.  Which is nice when you need to get your notes anywhere.

Oops! Hit "send" too quickly. Curio seems to me more in concept like
Circus Ponies' Notebook or the DevonThink products, than like
Evernote. Interestingly, Creativityist has a piece on Evernote/Curio
integration. In fact, the Curio sidebar links to Evernote: "The
newest release of Curio (5.4) now has seamless integration with
Evernote. All of your Evernote items appear within the Curio sidebar,
where they can easily be dragged into your Curio workspace. The two
programs complement each other well…Evernote is excellent for
collecting information and ideas, while Curio is suited to engage and
develop those ideas. " http://www.creativityist.com/2009/02/17/the-evernote-to-curio-double-whack-pack/

I tried Curio and liked it. But it had "that look" to me. The look
of a program that had lots and lots of features added to it but which
might also have lots of bugs because of it. Bugs associated with
things that were added quickly but didn't quite work right. My trial
confirmed this so I dropped it.

Try to stick with Evernote 3.1; the 3.5 releases have been much
tougher to use. Mainly user interface issues - read: font rendering
problems - and general slowness. Also some features removed but not
sure whether by design or by "oops". E.g., tagging multiple notes at
once must be done via drag 'n drop. Lot of little difficulties IMO.
3.1 will have no further improvements but is still supported
generally, and hopefully 3.5 will be fixed by then.

BTW all of the above is in reference to the Windows versions; AFAIK
the Mac versions are all working fine.

Thank you.

Evernote is progressively getting worse if you're a Windows user.
Windows users were thrown under the bus when Evernote decided it wanted
to work on every platform imaginable. Examples: no more templates, and
decreased tagging functionality. In spite of assurances, giving the time
it has taken and the bland nature of what is said, I doubt Evernote has
real intentions of making up what has been taken from the program.

Yeah but Evernote is not what it is not, it is what it is and that is what I use.  I'm not waiting for some fantasy to come about ... it is just fine the way it is.  Works as advertised.  I've been seeing people whine about the "good ole days" of the last release of Evernote forever now.  Each release is changed and not so much that it affects how I use it so I have no problems with it.  It continues to allow me to store images and search the text within them and tag them for retrieval.  And now that it works on the iPhone I'm in hog heaven.  And yet the whiners continue to lament what once was and try to dissuade others from using it because it used to be "better".  I never got that approach to life.
