18th – 31st August
Steven Morant
Steven’s residency is concerned with the manner in which sky-scraper
sculptures, such as the Great Sphinx, demonstrate the timeless appeal
of architectural sculpture. How did carvers on one side of the Great
Sphinx’s nose make their work exactly reflect the work on the other?
During the residency, it is hoped to test theories about such
questions through the six-fold enlargement of a life-size head.
Afterwards, when cast, the enlarged head will allow children to
shelter inside it.

Co-founders Laurence Collyer and Richard Lewis will use the two weeks
in 42 to develop and present their ‘DIY Blockbuster Group Show’
including an exhibition by artists and musicians of portraits of
Donald Trump and the Planets; a bric-a-brac shop made by Roman Alaska
World Enterprises displaying homemade submissions of all kinds.
Laurence and Richards’ orchestrated collision of the DIY and
entrepreneurial spheres promises plenty of creative debate.

These projects are part of 42 New Briggate's Summer Residency
