A little reminder about the artists talk and discussion in 42 New
Briggate tomorrow evening...

Art in Unusual Spaces and MAAP present:
an artist talk and discussion with Artspace Lifespace.
42 New Briggate, Leeds LS1 6NU

Tuesday 6th July
6pm doors open for refreshments and snacks
6.30pm – 8.30pm talk and discussion

ArtSpace LifeSpace are an artist group from Bristol experienced in
using empty and disused spaces in the city for art use. We have
invited them to talk in Leeds as a way to reflect upon Art In Unusual
Spaces activity to date, share practice and think about new
opportunities and methods that could be applied in Leeds. The talk is
for anyone interested or involved in Leeds’ art activity both within
or outside of the context of Art In Unusual Spaces.

‘The Artspace Lifespace Project is an artist led initiative that
recycles vacant, under-used and problem properties into thriving
active creative resources. We work in partnership with building
owners, property developers and the local community to secure and re-
use interesting, unusual and often difficult spaces as vibrant multi-
use art venues.

‘ ”As a company we have found Artspace Lifespace dedicated, passionate
and hard working.”
Darren Sheward – Urban Creation

‘We manage the site under contract and create workshops, studio
spaces, galleries, cafés, performance and training facilities, which
we then make accessible to the local community. Each building we
manage we aim to make sustainable and self-supporting, all funds
raised through events, activities or donations from artists for use of
space are channelled back into the Project.

‘We rely a lot on the energy and time donated by our core members and
network of volunteers as well as the awareness and revenue raised from
our public events and regeneration services.’

Info taken from the About section of the ArtSpace LifeSpace website.

The event is free but please email carmicha...@yahoo.co.uk if
you are planning on attending so we can organise the space
accordingly.
