CONTEST UNIVERSITY 2023 ---> Registration is  now  open for the 2023 Contest
University (CTU), to be held on 18 May at the  Hope Hotel near Dayton, Ohio.
See https://www.contestuniversity.com/ for the details.  This is  the  venue
for all contest-related activities taking place during the Dayton Hamvention
(CTU, Contest Super Suite, Top Band Dinner, Contest Dinner, etc).

TN8K 2023 ---> The TN8K DXpedition  to the Congo [425DXN 1637]  is confirmed
to take place between  6 January (arrival) and 21 January (departure),  with
"full operation" planned on 10-19 January.  The team has secured  a location
"in the flat terrain  within sight of  the ocean.  We will have  an area  of
approximately  6000 square metres  at our disposal,  which is fenced,  so we
should feel safe. The view in all directions is unobstructed so we can point
our antennas without problems to all continents.  There is also enough space
around for installing beverage antennas;  the only complication can be graz-
ing herds of cows".
The team will carry "17 pieces of checked baggage of 23 kg, and eight pieces
of cabin baggage of 12 kg. That's a total of 487 kilograms of material". Two
diesel generators will provide power around the clock;  they will "regularly
alternate in operation",  so "we can expect  minor outages  needed to switch
the entire local network to the second generator". The estimated consumption
for two weeks is about 1400 litres of diesel  at "roughly +0.8 USD per litre
plus delivery costs to the QTH".  This is "the most expensive project imple-
mented by the  Czech DXpedition team to date",  and donations will be grate-
fully accepted.  See https://www.cdxp.cz/ for more information,  including a
revised band plan.
"To make the operation of the TN8K expedition more attractive, we decided to
announce a competition for the official expedition T-shirt".  The first sta-
tions from EU, NA & SA, AS and VK/ZL & Oceania  "with the most slots on Club
Log will receive a free official expedition T-shirt  from us as a thank-you.
Only the first station  from a given area  with the maximum number  of slots
can win. It is not only the number of slots that matters, but also the speed
of who reaches this number first".

W8S: SWAINS ISLAND ---> The DXpedition has been postponed once more,  as "at
the moment it is  impossible to charter a ship  for March 2023",  PA3EWP re-
ported on 11 December. The government ship 'Manu'atele' has a fixed schedule
and  cannot sail to Swains  to drop the team off and  pick them up two weeks
later.  Negotiations continue, however,  and the project  "has certainly not
been cancelled, but again postponed.  As soon as it is possible,  we will go
to Swains". Bookmark https://swains2020.lldxt.eu/home/ for updates.
