Owing to the ongoing and fluid nature  of the  COVID-19  situation globally,
announced  activities  might  be  cut short,  postponed,  cancelled  or even
extended at any time and without notice.

4X     - The "Land of Craters"  programme  will see  four  special  stations
         operate  from the  Makhteshim  ("craters") in the  Negev desert  of
         Israel. The first activity was conducted by 4X0ARF (November 2020).
         Look for 4X0GDL to be QRV from Makhtesh Gadol ("The Big Crater") on
         30 April-1 May.  QSL via 4X6ZM, LoTW and  eQSL.  A certificate will
         be available  for  working three out of four special stations:  see

6O     - Ali, EP3CQ will be back to Mogadishu, Somalia from 25 April for two
         months.  In his spare time  he will operate  mainly FT8  on various

G      - GB0DOE, GB1PPP, GB2DOE and GB4RIP are  four special callsigns  (see
         qrz.com  for  QSL information)  commemorating the life  of  HRH The
         Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh,  who passed away on 9 April  aged
         99. He had been the  Radio Society of Great Britain's patron  since
         1952.
G      - Celebrating  Saint George,  patron saint  of  England,  the Welland
         Valley ARS will be active as GB0SG  on 22-24 April.  QSL via G4XEX,
         LoTW and eQSL.
HA     - The Hungarian Amateur Radio Society  (MRASZ)  will commemorate  the
         230th anniversary  of the birth of  Samuel Morse  with nine special
         callsigns:  HA230S, HA230A, HA230M, HA230U, HA230E, HA230L, HA230O,
         HA230R  and  HA230MSE.  Look for activity  on CW and SSB  on  17-27
         April. QSL via LoTW; paper cards should be requested via Club Log's

HV     - Special event station HV9SMG will be active on  24 April  (Interna-
         tional Marconi Day) from the  Vatican Radio Broadcasting Centre  at
         Santa Maria di Galeria.  Look for activity on  40, 20 and 10 metres
         SSB, CW and digital modes from  6 to 12 UTC.  QSL via IK0CNA.  [TNX

I      - II5RCH ("Remembering Chernobyl") is the special callsign for Loria-
         no, IZ5RHU to memorialize the 35th anniversary of the Chernobyl Nu-
         clear Power Plant disaster from 18 April to 9 May.  QSL via IZ5RHU,
         direct or bureau.
I      - Members of ARI Belluno  will be active as  IB3CAI from  1 May to 30
         September.  QSL via IU3EDK.  The special callsign memorializes  the
         130th anniversary of the local section of the glorious  Club Alpino
         Italiano (the Italian Alpine Club, founded in 1863), as well as the
         70th  anniversary  of  the  alpine hut  "VII Alpini at  Pis Pilon",
         operated by CAI Belluno since 1951.
JA     - Operated by members of the Denpaken Club and the A1 Club,  8N1MORSE
         is a  special callsign  celebrating  the  230th anniversary  of the
         birth of Samuel Morse and other significant landmarks in the histo-
         ry of CW until 28 February 2022. A website is under construction at
         https://www.8n1morse.org.
JA     - Take, JI3DST will be active as  JI3DST/5  (QSL via Club Log's OQRS,
         or via home call) from Shodo Island (AS-200)  from  29 April  to  5
         May.  He will operate SSB, CW and FT8 on 40-6 metres, and will also
         be QRV as JR8YLY/5 (QSL via Club Log's OQRS).
JW     - Tom, OH6VDA (LA6VDA) expects to be active again as JW6VDA  from the
         JW5E station in Longyearbyen (EU-026), Svalbard from  26 April to 9
         May.  QSL via LoTW,  Club Log's OQRS,  eQSL,  or via the bureau  to

KH9    - Randy, WW6RG is scheduled to be on Wake Island on 20, 23, 27 and 29
         April. He plans to operate QRP SSB as WW6RG/KH9 on 20 and 17 metres
         between  4 and 7.30 UTC.  This will be Randy's  last trips  to Wake
         before he retires  in September.  QSL direct to WW6RG;  he does not

OE     - Austrian special  event  station  OE21M  will be  active  on  24-26
         April to commemorate the anniversary of  Guglielmo Marconi's  birth
         (25 April 1874).  QSL via OE1WHC (bureau)  or direct  to  DokuFunk,
         OE21M, An den Steinfeldern 4A, 1230 Wien, Austria.
ON     - OT30CRD is the special callsign for  Club Radio Durnal (ON4CRD)  to
         celebrate  its  30th  anniversary  until 18 May.  All QSOs  will be
         confrmed automatically via the bureau.
OZ     - Special callsign 5P0WARD will be active on 18 April  in celebration
         of World Amateur Radio Day. QSL via Club Log's OQRS, LoTW and eQSL,
         or via OZ1ACB.  A special award will be available for contacts made
         with 5P0WARD/xx stations with different suffix extensions;  further
         information can be found on https://www.qrz.com/db/5p0ward.
SP     - The Niepolomice Radio Club (SP9MOA) will operate special event sta-
         tion SN0IMED on 19-25 April to celebrate International Mother Earth
         Day  (22 April).  Established in 2009  by the  UN General Assembly,
         International Mother Earth Day promotes a view of the  Earth as the
         entity that sustains all living things found in nature.
SV     - SZ200P is a  special callsign for the  Radio Amateur Association of
         Western Peloponnese to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Greek
         Revolution of 1821. Activity started on 9 April and will go through
         the end of the year. QSL via LoTW and eQSL.
UA     - R35CHA (QSL via RZ5D)  and  R35YCH (QSL via RW3YS)  are two special
         callsigns  to be used between  17 and 30 April  to memorialize  the
         35th anniversary of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant disaster (26
         April 1986).
UA     - A team of six operators (M0MSV/RA3NAN, R6LGT, R6MG, RN3BL, RX3F and
         RZ3EC) will be active as  RI0FF  from  Iturup Island (AS-025) on 28
         July-3 August, and from Sakhalin Island (AS-018) on 4-6 August. QSL
         via Club Log's OQRS (preferred), or via RZ3EC. More information can

UA2F   - Special callsigns RK75AK (UA2FAK), RK75FF (UF2F) and RK75FU (RA2FU)
         will be in use between  14 April and 31 July  to mark the  75th an-
         niversary of Kaliningrad. In 1946 northern East Prussia was annexed
         as part of the  Russian SFSR  by the  Soviet Union  and  named  the
         Kaliningrad Oblast.
VK     - Steve, VK6SJ  will be active as  VK6SJ/4  from the islands  of Iama
         (Yam), Thursday and Poruma (Coconut) in  IOTA Group OC-138  between
         26 April and  4 May.  He will be there for work,  and  will be  QRV
         during  the  local evenings.  "Most likely only be using  FT8",  he
         says,  "but if someone emails me separately and I have the time,  I
         could do the odd SSB and CW contact".  QSLs will be electronic only
         (LoTW, eQSL, QRZ).
VK9X   - Steve, VK6SJ will be active as VK9XX from Christmas Island (OC-002)
         on 7-28 May. He will be QRV "mostly outside working hours",  with a
         focus on 80, 40 and 30 metres "probably only FT8". QSL via EB7DX.
VP8    - Matthew, M0ZMS  will  be  seconded  to  the  RAF station  at  Mount
         Pleasant, Falkland Islands (SA-002) from late April to late August.
         He will be active as  VP8ZMS,  hopefully using the  Royal Air Force
         Amateur Radio Society's  club station  shack.  He operates  digital
         modes,  CW and some SSB.  QSL via home call and LoTW;  logsearch on

XE     - Celebrating the 61st anniversary of the Asociacion de Radio Aficio-
         nados  de la  Republica Mexicana  (https://ararm.com.mx/),  special
         callsigns 6D1A, 6D2A and 6D3A  will be active from 16 April  to  16
         May. QSLs via XE2T.

WORLD AMATEUR RADIO DAY 2021 ---> Every 18 April,  radio amateurs  worldwide
take to the airwaves  in celebration of  World Amateur Radio Day.  It was on
this day in 1925 that the  International Amateur Radio Union  was formed  in
Paris.  The IARU Administrative Council has chosen  "Amateur Radio: Home but
Never  Alone"  as  the  theme  for  this year's   World  Amateur  Radio  Day
(https://www.iaru.org/on-the-air/world-amateur-radio-day/):  "Faced  with  a
pandemic that forced  the adoption of  extreme physical isolation  to reduce
the spread  of the virus,  the worldwide  amateur radio community  responded
positively  to overcome the resulting social isolation".  Announced partici-

CONTEST UNIVERSITY 2021 ---> The Dayton  event  has been cancelled,  but CTU
2021 will still take place on 20 May.  It will be held online free of charge
via Zoom, starting at 13.00 UTC.  Registration opens on 21 April on the  CTU
website (https://www.contestuniversity.com/),  where the Course Outline page
is already up and running. CTU 2021 will end at 20.35 UTC with the presenta-
tion of this year's CQ Contest Hall of Fame.

CY0C: SABLE ISLAND 2022 ---> The CY0C team posted to the  DXpedition's  web-
site (http://cy0dxpedition.net/index.html) that their October 2021 operation
from Sable Island [425DXN 1554] has had to be postponed  due to the  ongoing
Covid-19 pandemic.  "Furthermore,  because of the pandemic,  Parks Canada is
behind on their  island maintenance projects  and the  Visitor Quarters will
not be available  for  the  DXpedition team.  The  Sable Island manager  did
extend an invitation to the team for October 2022, which the team unanimous-
ly accepted". Since the 2021 DXpedition is no longer possible,  the team "is
offering a couple of options to the many  foundations, clubs and individuals
who have already sent financial support. We are offering complete refunds to
those who request a refund.  If you would like us to apply your contribution
to the  2022  CY0C DXpedition,  that  will be available as well.  Any refund
requests should be directed to WA4DAN".

DANNY WEIL ---> "Join the Yasme Foundation in recognizing  World Amateur Ra-
dio Day as we showcase our rich history and celebrate  the legacy of a  sto-
ried  DXpeditioner".  The  Board of Directors  of  the  Yasme Foundation  is
pleased to announce the release of  "Danny Weil.  A Dreamer of Distant Lands
Who Took Amateur Radio on the Trip of a Lifetime"  by  Martti Laine (OH2BH).
The 21-page article is published at http://www.yasme.org/dw1/. The page also
contains a list of Danny Weil's  expeditions, a collection of  Danny's QSLs,
and an interview with Danny at age 80, with  OE1WHC of Dokufunk.  Along with
OH2BH's article, the book "Yasme.  The Danny Weil  and  Colvin Radio Expedi-
tions" by James D. Cain (K1TN) is also now available for the first time as a

INTERNATIONAL MARCONI DAY ---> Organized by the Cornish Radio Amateur  Club,
the International Marconi Day (IMD) is a 24-hour amateur  radio  event  held
annually to celebrate the birth of Guglielmo Marconi (25 April 1874). It  is
not a contest, but an opportunity for amateurs  around  the  world  to  make
contacts with historic Marconi sites  using  HF  communications  techniques.
This year's event will be held  on 24 April, from  00.00  UTC  to 23.59 UTC.

OH NORTHERN LIGHT 100-YEAR CERTIFICATE ---> The Finnish Amateur Radio League
(SRAL) is celebrating its 100th anniversary.  To earn the "OH Northern Light
100-year Certificate" (OH-NL-100),  contact  fifty OH and  fifty OF stations
during 2021  (a special  OF prefix will be launched to all OH stations on 15
September), and ten "multipliers" [425DXN 1559]. Multiplying your QSO points
(maximum 100)  by your multiplier value (max 10)  will give you your score -
maximum of 1000 points.
On 17-18 April a minimum of five multipliers will be QRV:  OG2B (operated by
OH2BH, OH2GEK and OH7EA),   OH100SRAL (operated by OH2BCI and OH2KW),   OH2A
(operated by OH2KI and OH3JR),  OH6SRAL (operated by OH6ZS) and  OI3AX oper-
ated by OH2LGW).  For easy logging, please use the special activity sheet at
https://www.sral.fi/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/SRAL-100_Logging.pdf.
All who score 1000 points and the  top-ten continental highest scorers  will
receive their OH-NL-100 certificate signed by Santa Claus. A special lottery
will feature additional  special prizes that  will be announced later.  Your
log extract should be sent to of9x[@]sral.fi  during January 2022.  The same
address will answer  all  questions  relating to  this centennial  activity.

+ SILENT KEYS + Feco, HA8KW reports the  sad news  of the passing  of  Csaky
"Tami" Tamas, HA8EK (HG8C).  A member of the  HG8DX Contest Team,  he passed
away on 6 April of Covid-19.
Edward "Eddy" M, Reynolds, K5WQG passed away on  9 April  as the result of a
major heart attack.  Many IOTA chasers  worked him on his numerous  trips to
Papua New Guinea,  when  he operated  P29NI, P29VCX and P29VPB  with  Derek,
G3KHZ, and Hans, SM6CVX. [TNX W5PF]
