This is just an idea I got seeing it was brought up last night in
briefing.

Just to recap: SGT Sant brought about the idea for a Cadet Initiated
Activity 417SQN could get a flight sim.

More specifically there was general consensus among the Squadron on
the idea; hence to get the idea of the ground, it does need to be
discussed by Cadets.

In regards to a Simulator system, the idea I gathered from what was
said:
- 3 monitors
- Flight yoke + rudder
- Computer system (includes standard stuff)
- Sound system - this is entirely up to the SQN. Speakers /
Headphones...
- and all this looking under $5000 dollars.

- Now Flight Sim X is available from me... It was 'acquired' if you
catch my drift.
- If not the standard version can be reasonably purchased, but you
don't have to use Microsoft Flight Sim, there's another sim out there
which is very good (i forgot it's name)
- It is intended that the focus of the simulator would be to train
CDT's on Cessna 152/172.

Come back in half an hour:
A friend of mine, has got a rather precise list of cost an equipment,
on an under $5000 dollar budget. Full System.

um I believe it was 4 moniters
It would be better if it is surround sound
For realism the computer would have to be resonable high specs maybe
directX 10 when it becomes more redily available

- I've got a legit copy of FSX Deluxe Edition which i would gladly
install on the new rig because the game itself does not require the
discs.
- I'm not sure about you 2 but DirectX 10 probably isn't necessary,
but we do have 5k so, hell yeah, why not!
- Surround sound system; awesome idea Hayden.
- Yeah, it was 4 monitors.

Finally, due to high-end specifications, in terms of realism, Flight
Simulator X probably wouldn't be the best option to go with. Perhaps,
a standard Cessna flight simulator PC game could be purchased for
around $55, which might be a better option to consider.

Anyway, just a few ideas. See you lads next parade!

Hi all.

Thanks for the feedback. My apologies as I could not get the correct
specs.

Simply; Force Feedback Flight Yolks are expensive - they are also
difficult to find.
Flight Sim X is capable of running with DirectX9 - we are not rich,
nor is it utterly necessary albeit it would look rather schmick.
Flight Sim X - also has very good scenery generation (around Point
Cook/Moorabbin) and is ideal, though "X Flight Sim" is also available
- though more comprehensive is similarly priced, but 6 DVD's worth of
scenery and planes - though it is one of the best (but I have no
experience with it)

There are complications in running a 4 monitor system. It would
require multiple graphics cards.

They capabilities are restricted. From what my source told me, we'd
need to use a splitter from the Graphics card (usually around 300
bucks), hence they better option would be to have 2 (22") monitors.

Otherwise it would be 2 Graphics card's both with dual output - giving
a total of 4 monitors. (Just imagine the Windows Loading screen on 4
monitors... sikk (though it won't happen, technical stuff i won't bore
you with)

Cheers,

RIghteo.
I customized a PC online and came up with the following:

Custom Built Computer
# Intel CPU:
Intel CORE 2 DUO E6700/ 2.66GHz/ 4MB CACHE/ 1066FSB/ LGA775
# Intel Motherboards:
Gigabyte GA-P35T-DQ6 motherboard
# Desktop Drives:
Seagate Barracuda 160Gb 7200RPM 8Mb SATA 2
# Optical Drives:
Samsung SH-S182 DVD Re-Writer (18x/8x Dual Layer Black)
# Desktop Memory:
Corsair DDR2 4GB PC-6400 (4x XMS2 1GB) QUAD2X4096-6400C5DHX RAM
# Monitors:
Samsung 19" 940BW WIDESCREEN BLACK LCD
# Cases:
Thermaltake Matrix Black Case with 430W, VD2430BNS
# Graphics Cards:
BFG Tech 8800GTX OC2 PCI-E 626/ 2000 MHz 768MB GDDR3
# Sound Cards:
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Elite Pro with I/ O Console & IR Remote
# Keyboards:
Logitech G-15 Gaming Keyboard USB
# Mice & Input Devices:
Logitech G7 Cordless Laser Mouse USB
# Speakers:
Logitech Z-5500D 5.1 THX Speakers
# Microsoft Windows:
Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate 32-Bit DVD - OEM
# Assembly:
Built By Centre Com

That system came to $4450, and we have an extra $2500 for an extra
monitor or a bigger monitor, and the floght yoke.

The 8800GTX is capable of running dual-monitors, and when listening to
the Sgt. last parade i was thinking, WTF?! Projectors!

Personally, 2 monitors would be pleanty, or even only one 30" LCD, i
mean how hard could it be to bloddy pan around the cockpit.

Anyway, check out the specs and reply if u have any queries. I might
have some more stuff posted later in the holidays.
