Hi Jason,

Just wondering, are on-line tutorials considered to be professional
development?

Thanks, Renee.

Renee,
online tutorials would more accurately be classed as part of professional learning with professional development being a different component of professional learning that is specifically designed to develop some capacity. However, the "Continuing Professional Development" framework used by the Queensland College of Teachers comprises:

• employer directed and supported CPD

• school supported CPD
• individually identified CPD

What you describe could form part of individually identified continuing professional development in the last category Professional reading.

CPD activities

CPD must be differentiated from activities that are normal expectations of the teacher’s role or engagement in extra-curricular activities.

  • For engagement in courses, workshops, seminars, and summer schools, evidence could be in the form of a certificate provided by the organisation or provider.
  • For school-based CPD, evidence could include school records such as minutes, sign-on sheets
    or
agendas that confirm who attended and the amount and type of CPD involved, annual/term
    or
statements provided by the school using the usual school/system’s recording arrangements
    or
    certificates provided by a presenter.
  • For formal academic studies. A certificate of completion or transcript of academic results will provide evidence of completed formal studies.
  • For Professional reading evidence could be in the form of a log including bibliography and the outcome such as a presentation to colleagues, report or implementation into planning.
But the QCT requires a range of continuing professional development and would not accept a significant proportion of continuing professional development from this category without significant explanation of why other forms of professional development were not available or inappropriate.

Likewise for LA2 and your ICT Pedagogy Certificate it would be expected that professional reading (online tutorials) comprised only a small component of evidence that you were engaging in professional learning,

regards
Jason

Jason,

My teacher has typed my statement of support which means there is no signature. She has however provided her contact details. Is this alright, or do I need to have her sign the statement?

Thanks,
Rebekah

Rebekah,
please have her email me the statement from her school email account and include a statement of you having done this to verify the statement in your portfolio (remember that I may not be the only one verifying your portfolio)

Thanks Jason.

I am in the same boat here. I'm going to assume that I would need to
do the same thing? My teacher has emailed me my statement with her
details and school email address on the bottom…should I ask for a copy
to be sent to your email address Jason?

That would be fine, but annotate your portfolio to indicate this in
case it is questioned,

I have asked my teacher to forward on the statement from her school
email address. Please let me know when you have recieved it.
I will also annotate the statement in my portfolio like you asked.
Many thanks,

With the professional development,
I went to a professional development session on Mathematics and
although it wasn't particularly about ICT,
it helped me to be able to locate a more informative lesson using ICT
on the subject of the professional development session.
So is it ok to write into my ICT Certificate as it did help inform my
teaching with ICT?

Yes Elise, that criteria is more about you engaging with professional development than doing PD on ICT, though it would be good for you to show how ICT has assisted your professional learning,
