Leaders Collaborate on Trenton Youth Arts, Poetry and Prose Contest
What does America's first "green" President mean to you and your future?

Trenton, New Jersey - March 7, 2009 - We Are BOOST and a host of business and organizational leaders invite the parents, educators and the general public to be a part of our Youth Arts, Poetry, and Prose Contest 2009. Contest details including how to enroll, age-groupings, types of awards, and time-line for submissions will be unveiled on Friday, March 13 at Planet Havana from 6pm until 7:30pm with presentations by special guest Rein Triefeldt and Lydia Chambers. Havana is located at 449 South Broad Street in Trenton's arenas district. Donation is $18 per person and includes full Cuban buffet dinner. "What Does the Election of Your Country's Not Only First 'Black" President, but Also First 'Green' President Mean to You and Your Future?" Expressed through Visual Art, Poetry and Prose
![Kieanna Childs Alexander of Trenton's NAACP]() BOOST and a consortium of artists, business owners, and organizational leaders are asking Trenton school-aged children and young adults to think about and submit their responses in the form of art, poetry, and prose in the month of April. Awards will be issued at a special ceremony slated to take place in the first weekend of June during Trenton's annual Heritage Days celebration and at a downtown location to be announced.
"It is important that present and future generations understand the importance of green technology and sustainable design in everyday living. Through groups such as BOOST, youth as well as adults will be empowered to incorporate green and sustainable features that seek to promote social and economic change and improvements" says Kieanna Childs Alexander, a Trenton native and one of nearly a dozen jurist for the contest, 3rd Vice-President of the Trenton NAACP and current titleholder of Mrs. Mercer County New Jersey. *More information about Kieanna can be found at www.gss-set.blogspot.com and below.
In addition to Childs-Alexander, contest jurist include:
- Julian Kernes, a President and graphic artist for JKE Graphics,
- Laurie Triefeldt, author of World of Wonder children's book series,
- Harold "Hal" Fleming, artist and member of the Religious Society of Friends in Trenton,
- RAHZII High-Powa, well-noted hip-hop and reggae performing artist and Trenton native,
- Professor Alvyn Haywood, proprietor of Human Empowerment Communication Inc. and educator at Mercer County Community College,
- Mel Leipzig, a MCC College professor who, in 2007, was elected into the prestigious National Academy,
- Amini K. Sababu, social worker and founder of Trenton-based cultural organization Positive Black Images CONNECT, and
- Jennifer Legore, owner of Trenton's Phoenix Night Club and Restaurant

About Rein Triefeldt, Back2Tap, Kieanna Childs Alexander
Rein Triefeldt ( www.triefeldt.com) is thought to be the first kinetic sculptor to make use of solar panels in order to create motion in his sculpture. Triefeldt has specialized in kinetic sculpture since 1986. The art focuses on the rich but largely uncharted realms of light, rhythm, balance and motion. The interactive and playful elements of Triefeldt's work make it a popular choice for art and science museums, public parks and gardens. His commissioned public art can be found in many collections around the world.
Back2Tap's ( www.back2tap.com) mission is to reduce the waste generated from the production and distribution of bottled water and water-based products in disposable plastic bottles. Lydia Chambers, one of the company's founders, is working with BOOST founder Tim Razzaq in conducting a campaign to assist consumers in purchasing Back2Tap's We Are BOOST Stainless Steel Bottles (BOOST Eco-Bottles). Proceeds from all purchases will cover cash awards for We Are BOOST Contest to Camp CURE Youth Arts, Poetry, and Prose Contest.
Kieanna was born and raised in Trenton New Jersey and was educated in the gifted and talented program in the city of Trenton. She received her Associates in Arts and a Bachelors of Arts in Liberal Studies with a specialization in Applied Social Science from Rider University. She currently attends Liberty University and is scheduled to receive a Masters of Arts in Human Services with a specialization in Executive Leadership in May 2009.
