You don't use a skp file to upload to the warehouse, you have to use a kmz file.

There are a few ways you can get a kmz file to upload your model. The easiest would probably be to upload straight from SketchUp using the Share Model tool in the Google Earth toolbar. This will automatically generate a kmz file to upload, as well as bring up the window to upload your file.

Another way would be to use the File > Export > 3d Model, and save as a kmz file. An unnecessarily complex method would be to use the Place Model tool, also in the Google Earth toolbar, then save use File > Save > Save Place As... from Google Earth to get a kmz file. Once you have a kmz file you can then go to the 3D Warehouse upload page to upload that kmz file.

actually, the link http://sketchup.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=156327
refers to:

"3. Upload as a SketchUp file. If you created your model in SketchUp
and uploaded it as a KMZ, consider uploading it as an SKP instead."

I have the same problem and I still haven't figured it out. It's like
there's a button on the upload page that's hidden to no one but me.
How come most of the models you can download on 3D Warehouse are .skp
and yet I can only upload .kmz?

Guys,

On the website (3D Warehouse) you can only upload (georeferenced) kmz
files - obviously for GE only.

If you want to share your skp files, the only way is to use the built
in uploader in SketchUp itself (the "Share model" button in the Google
Toolbar).

                    That information is wrong.
I tried using the   "built-in"  button for Sharing Models (to upload to 3D Warehouse),  and  3D Warehouse still  only accepts  KMZ files.

Designer, Gaieus is actually correct. You can upload skp files from the uploader in SketchUp itself, which is what he said, using the "Share model" button.

If you're using SketchUp 7, you should upgrade to SketchUp 8 to make things easier to share.

Cheers,
