Hello,

I've modeled my university with Google SketchUp 3 months ago and
uploaded the buildings in the 3D Warehouse. The Models are correctly
geo-referenced and follow all of the "best of 3d Warehouse rules". I
have build 18 Buildings and 2 of them are already in the GE. Since
than I've received no feedback for the other 16 Models. Should I
upload my Models again or should I wait? Does anyone knows a solution
of my problem?

Hier the link to my collection:

Thanks.

First of all:
- You have no influence on what models are choosen by GE
- Even if all models comply to the modelling rules, do NOT expect that
all of them are included.
- Do not expect feedback

Second:
Your models are well done, but the textures are far too detailed.
My experience tells me that models with a KML size of 2 MB or more
have almost no chance to be included. You may have noticed that the
two models selected from the 18 are just the most simple ones! In your
case I would suggest to scale all textures to 50% length/width.

If you absolutely want to retain you high resolution model, upload
copies, e.g.
"Hochschule Reutlingen - Gebäude 18 (Vereinfacht)". Be careful not to
overwrite your existing model.

As a rule of thumb:
- a simple model (one building) should not use up mode than 0.5 MB.
Usually 300kB are sufficient.
- a complex model (i.e. a building complex) should not exceed 1.5 MB
and ~3000 triangles (shown on the KML export page).
- Try to add at a bit more textual information to the model (not
absolutely necessary)
- Include an English translation of the title and description.
Remember that Google is not a German company.

If you don't believe that's possible, have a look at the "Schloßkirche
Wittenberg". It is just 1MB.

Hi Everyone,

I have good news and I have bad news. The good news is that we're
seeing a lot of geolocated models in the 3D Warehouse, and that's
awesome. The bad news is that evaluating this content for the "Best of
3D Warehouse" layer takes longer since there are more models. Rest
assured, that every geo-located model is evaluated and we're
constantly working to speed up this process. Similarly, we're always
looking at ways to get more information to model owners regarding
their model's progress towards being added to the "Best of 3D
Warehouse" layer. Any progress made in this area would hopefully make
this process much clearer.

I realize this is a short discussion, but it covers a large issue. I
appreciate everyone's feedback and recommendations for adding great
models to the "Best of 3D Warehouse" layer.

Many thanks.

Tommy - thanks for replying to the question. With no feedback and
without even knowing if a model has been looked at, it sometimes feels
like I am banging my head against a 3D Model Brick Wall.

Google explain they are aiming to create a 3D model of the world. This
is a great idea, but will be very hard to achieve if the model
creators do not know if their work is suitable, and how to proceed in
assisting the process.

So its good to read a response, and I await to see a response to my
own models (5 months and counting...)

Thanks again.

Hi Alan,

Many thanks for your feedback. Hopefully the following post will knock
down the proverbial 3D Model Brick Wall:

http://groups.google.com/group/3dwh/browse_thread/thread/8a81091dccb87563?hl=en#

If you don't see a status on your model's details page, make a small
change to your model like adding a tag to add this feature.

Enjoy!
