Could someone step me through the procedure for uploading a SU model
and then making it available as a url within a question on this forum,
so anyone can download it and see what I'm talking about.
Some people seem to be uploading to other sites (other than Warehouse),
like we upload .jpg's to Photobucket. What alternative upload sites
will accept SU files - and can I upload .jpg's to Warehouse?

fostertom,

Just go up to the main menu and select "Google". There is a choice to
Share or Get Model. Once you upload a file, you should be presented
with a link that you can add to a post on the forum.

Henry

Hi Tom,

You can also post to this group via email. Attached files appear in the
post and are downloadable. The email link is given at the bottom of
each of the individual forum pages.

That's the problem - when I upload I'm *not* presented with a link. To
find out what my upload's url is, I have to search for and download it,
then copy the url out of Properties. And manually delete '&ctyp=sm' off
the end of it. This can't be right! What am I missing?

On your model's details page (the one with the large preview image),
click "Link to this page" at the bottom.

Thanks Jeanette, got it

Next question - whatever I upload , Google gives it the same old url
and it replaces my previous upload, even though I'm uploading different
.skp files and giving them different names/descriptions. What am I
missing?

Jim, I can't see that email link?

Click on the "see more topics" link and look at the bottom og the page.
Each sub-group has its own email address.

Sounds like you're always starting from the same file, even if it's
been saved with a different name. This behavior was intended to make
updates of an existing model easy, but it sounds like the case of
saving to a different name isn't covered. Try this: select-all in your
document, copy to the clipboard, open a NEW SketchUp document, and
paste into that. This should upload to a new entry on the 3D
Warehouse.

Did you save a model that has been uploaded as a template file? If so,
it might cause this behaviour.

You're right Rich, that's what I was doing, I did what you said and it
worked.

I know I'm stupid but can't see "see more topics" anywhere.
