Greetings,

My issue applies to:
  • SketchUp 8
  • ATI Catalyst Control Center (CCC)
  • ATI Radeon HD 5650 Display Adapter
I need to know how to set the CCC for my display adapter so that Sketchup will run.  SketchUp was working fine before installing the CCC, now all I get is a Bug Splat when I launch SketchUp. If it helps, I've attached the files that were listed in Bug Splat. Oddly, though, one of the listed (xml) files I could not find.

Please help. Thanks

I guess what I should have written was not that I need to know "how" to set the CCC, but rather "what" settings should I choose? For example:
  • Should I set the 3D features to be controlled by Sketchup?
  • Should I enable anti-aliasing and to what degree?
  • Does Sketchup need anisotropic filtering?
  • Should OpenGL be enabled/disabled?
I can't seem to choose the correct combination of settings that will allow Sketchup to run. If I could launch Sketchup and get to the help files I could probably find the answer there. Isn't there an options file somewhere that if I delete or edit, then Sketchup will run?

I've used the CCC with a RADEON 4870 for a long time and I've never had a problem with any version of SketchUp or CCC. All my settings are at the defaults. Pretty much just application preference, no overrides.

I did a search for "ARB functions NOT available" from your log. There's a lot of other threads. I read a few, you might want to read more of them.

Most point to the video driver, either the video card or the open GL driver.

Several messages said turn off hardware acceleration, if it works with it off it's the driver. Although, I don't see a setting with CCC.

You can also roll the driver back to the previous version.

I think going back to an older driver is the easiest way. At least that will see if it's the new driver.

Either through the device manger, [roll back driver] or do a system restore, or if you have an earlier setup file run it. Or uninstall the CCC control panel.

Hope this helps.

I don't think rolling back the driver will fix it, because I had the latest driver when this all began.  What I didn't have was the CCC. The only reason I installed  it was so that I could make adapter adjustments to get a game to run--which I can't seem to do either. I originally set out to do that. Now the game still won't work, and SU stopped working.

Last night, I removed and re-installed Sketchup Pro 8. Still no improvement. I get only Bug Splat when I try to run SU. I'm going to completely dissable CCC to see if that helps. If I have to choose between using SU and playing a game, I'm going with SU.

Thanks for your input. I'll keep you posted.

Your welcome, good luck. I think you're right, uninstall CCC and see what happens. Maybe CCC changes a setting that makes it incompatible with SketchUp.
