:)
There are two theories why this may be - first, because we just arn't
important, and second because we happen to be right next to a
sensative military base.
But, whatever the reason is, this *seems* to make it impossible then
for me to use Google Earth to place my SketchUp models on!
Anyone any thoughts about this? (Comments, suggestions or do you have
the same problem?)
I have the same problem, too, so what I did was that I uploaded an
image overlay in GE (covering mainly the historic city centre of the
town only). I believe that I could more or less precisely position the
image (fade the overlay gradually so you can somehow identify certain
spots on the very blury image underneath). Now I work with this
overlay to position my models as accuretely as possible this way.

I understand that not everybody has a good orthographic image of his/
her location but say I was lucky.

Cheer Gaieus - first of all it's nice to hear I'm not the only one
with this problem. It actually helps to know that!
:)
Secondly, thanks to you and Jose who mentioned the same solution...
So - basically - I find a better resolution arial image of the terrain
I'm interested in and place this into GE as a clearer image on top of
the blurry GE terrain?
Very simple solution. Nice. :)
I managed to find a company - getmapping.com - which sells high
altitude high resolution photographs of the United Kingdom, and while
not cheap they fit the bill exactly.
For anyone else looking for terrain photography, here is a link to
thier website: http://www1.getmapping.com/webshop/Web/CommonPages/Main/Start.aspx
Thanks for this solution guys - and I enjoyed looking at your web
links too. Very helpful.
Bad news you need to pay for it (I had mine free). Still my city has
more than 160,000 inhabitants (and going to be theEuropean Capital of
Culture in 2010) and it's a kind of shame from Google that it neglects
such "remote" areas.
I even talked to them and they said they could use the aerial photos
but there are still some "royalty" issues about it.
Anyway, have fun;

I still have doubts but they are preparing big time (some 140 million
Euros are being invested).
I also "prepared" for the Turkish partner:

(note that I made it when I was still a "beginner" in SU :-)
