My "Space Palette" instrument is based on a program I call MultiMultiTouchTouch (MMTT) that talks to the Kinect and sends OSC/TUIO messages to other programs.  I've modified MMTT so that you can give it a specially-colored image to specify the multitouch areas, rather than needing a physical frame to train it with.  I've put some effort into making the UI more portable - it's now controlled with a browser-based interface rather than a Python program.  I've also done some minimal documentation and packaging so that I think it might be usable by someone other than me.

If you're interested in trying it out and using MMTT for your own artwork, and will give me feedback about anything that's unclear or doesn't work, send email to m...@timthompson.com and I can send you a zip file with the Windows executable and supporting files.   This will only include MMTT, not the musical software that I drive from it.  To use it, you'll need a program that is able to receive and interpret TUIO messages over OSC.  I can provide a simple Processing sketch that receives and processing these messages, if that's the environment you want to use.

I'm intending on making the source code for MMTT publicly available.  It uses the Cinder framework and several other libraries (e.g. libfreenect, pthreads), and compiles with Visual Studio 2010.  Portability to OSX and Linux is likely to be straightforward, but not trivial.  If you are interested in and capable of porting it, let me know.
