Microsoft is hosting Startup Weekend from Friday, Apr 13 to Sunday, Apr 15. The 3 categories this year are robots, gaming, and mobile.
On Friday, Apr 13, from 3 -5 PM there will be a special training session given by the development lead for the Kinect for Windows SDK. It’s targeted towards experienced developers who are new to Kinect/Kinect for Windows, taking folks through the sensor capabilities and the APIs required to bootstrap. At the same time but in other rooms, there will be training for Windows 8 and robotics. Register above for the training sessions. They’re free, but the rest of Startup Weekend requires a paid ticket.
Staying for the full weekend is worthwhile. If you’ve wanted to form a Kinect related startup but needed to meet like-minded people, this might be a perfect opportunity for you. Since there’s an entrance fee, the quality of participants tends to be quite high. From the site:
“Startup Weekend is an intense 54 hour event which focuses on building a web or mobile application which could form the basis of a credible business over the course of a weekend. The weekend brings together people with different skillsets - primarily software developers, graphics designers and business people - to build applications and develop a commercial case around them.”

My apologies. The Kinect seminar today is free, but only if you’ve purchased a ticket for the rest of Startup Weekend. From the registration site:
“This needs to be purchased in addition to another paid ticket to participate in Mega Startup Weekend.”
I did not notice that before today.
