Flipping objects like a round plate 90 degrees to upright for example

I would like to know how I can flip an object 90 degrees.  Specifically, I'm wanting to flip a circular plate 90 degrees so I can fit it inside a pipe.  Would someone please be kind enough to help me figure this one out?

If I understand correctly, you could rotate (not flip) the object by 90 degrees. (and then maybe flip it once if that's what you want to achieve).
