Motivation: Why do you want to participate and what skills would you bring to a team? *

I am someone who is easily excited by working in teams and hearing other people’s ideas, so naturally being in an innovative incubator, like 3DS, would be an electrifying experience and something that I’ve had experience with. I have worked in large groups, like my team on Bike and Build, and in smaller groups, like in my Moral Foundations of Free Enterprise Group. In both scenarios I’ve worked to come up with creative solutions in the face of problems. I excelled in both scenarios because I am comfortable working with a larger team and in a one-on-one setting to find solutions.

The 3-Day Startup is an opportunity to be in a room where ideas are actively being created and molded into tangible concepts and it is such a gift because it is the chance to learn and grow from others. Ideas are everywhere but it takes discipline and dedication to really sit down to talk and work out an idea and to be prepared for feedback from others. I want to be a part of this experience because it would be an opportunity to exercise my problem solving skills and learn about how others view problems and solutions.

Ideas: Do you have an idea for a startup? If so, tell us about your idea in a few sentences. If you don’t have an idea, name one or two recent startups that you find exciting and why. *

I would be interested in creating an online startup that would provide a line up of resources and advice to individuals facing hard times in order to lessen the obstacles they have to face to achieve social mobility. I'm imaging a sort of BuzzFeed that is focused on providing solutions and advice for those who may have experienced jail time, lost a job, are on probation, or are a single parent. The site would consist of articles but also info graphics and diagrams so those who are not strong readers can still understand.

The site is a resource that gives insider advice to those in difficult times and connect similar difficult experiences. For example, say someone was recently released after five years in prison. They could go onto this site and read up on articles about how to work with your probation officer or certain employers that are known to be understanding of ex-cons, and how to reconnect with your family. It would be a way for those who face major difficulties in life and are seeking social mobility to achieve it and connect with others who are seeking the same thing.
