I look at a machine like that and think... $4600 Vs $100,000... not $4600 Vs $2600. Awesome.

EXACTLY!

Is there a dual extrusion option? Soluble supports are going to take a big jump forward in the next few months.

I went there yesterday. Thinking that the exhibition floor would be open. My bad - that was a waste of time.

There was nothing to see or do for a "Networking Pass" holder and I was with my 5 year old who wanted to see big 3D printers. So we came back - the travel time was a waste of time.

The F306 has a dual extrusion option.

My understanding is that the F400 dual extrusion option is still being thoroughly tested and will not be available at launch but should be become available when Fusion3 feels comfortable releasing it.

Pretty much, yeah.  NVbots released something but everybody is kinda scratching their head on that one.  PLA only, 7.5x8x9.5" build area, price is something like $17.5k they said?

Went to NVbots site, you know it's bad when you have to fill out a contact form to get pricing... it only means they have to have a live sales pitch to convince you why their printer is priced about 10x as much as it should be.

That's why I prefer Autodesk products, just go to the site, price is right there. Solidworks is kind of a hidden price too...

Hey Toby,

Sorry to have Failed you So Miserably! Yes - I started reporting from the Show 1st thing - re:Carbon3D/CLIP Keynote. But, honestly - I failed to go to most of the other Keynotes. I just got More involved going around the Exhibit floor - including hanging out w/Paul from the forum here at the Exhibitions. I even missed the MBI Keynote. Sorry about that. And, I even tended to avoid the MBI booth - just cause 5th Gen's Suck!

I did get a sample of a New material from William of eSun - who was SUPER Happy to see both Paul & myself at the same time. It was very funny to see him so excitable. I am hoping that Paul can ALSO Follow-up here - and mention about that filament.

Anyway - am at work writing this reply - so I MUST make it Quick - since I don't (YET!) do Anything 3D Printing work here.

I did go to the Startups session - which was interesting to see companies compete for money.

One of those competing was Voodoo Manufacturing - based in Brooklyn. Interesting because I was just recently introduced to them by Gianni from our forum here. And, the guy I previously spoke to by phone - he was there at the booth of course - since he is a Marketing guy.

Interesting story behind this startup - since they have something like 100 3DP's. AFAIK - when MBI was emptying out ALL their Old supplies of printers - and trying to dump the last of the Rep2's on the market - Voodoo came along and bought up a Ton of them Cheaply - and thus how they started their 3D Printing Farm business.

There was this booth - NVBots - their printer now has this Scooping device inside the Bot. So - in theory - you can Keep printing Multiple items - and its scoops & knocks them off platform into a containment area on the side of the Inside of the printer.

Of course, as mentioned - I hung out at the Fusion3 booth a good bit. I really enjoyed chatting with both Chris and his associate. And, besides - they did my great favors of charging my cell phone - as well as my Flip Mino HD digital video camera. So - after charging the camera - I did a short video where Chris intro'd his printer and discussed some of the high points. Will admit - I'm not that great at doing the video - not keeping Chris at all times in the video "safe zone". But, I hope to get it uploaded to the web this evening - so you folks can check it out!

Robo 3D was there as well. What was REALLY COOL at their booth - was Filament that's Scented - and you CAN Smell these wonderful scents while it prints. Although - the scent doesn't stay or is less powerful once printed. They ARE looking to hopefully improve on the residual scent. The roll they were using while I was at the booth - and it really is VERY Cool - was Blueberry! Yup - I shit you not!

Toner Plastics was there. We were informed that they no longer sell thru MicroCenter - since its become so competitive and the filament was getting underpriced! I was also told that they sell to MBI - that rebrands the stuff - and, of course - they suck by Doubling the price they Anyone else charges!

Lulzbot was showing off a Large sized all metal print head - w/large nozzle - 1mm - which can also push filament thru FAST - and the guy suggested that this is Exactly what I needed for my Big Dragon project - with my plans to double overall size of my Dragon from 4.5 to 9 feet - tip of tongue to tail tip!

German RepRap was there with a nice large sized printer. Turns out - the one guy there is ALSO On our Forum - and I chatted with him a bit - as well as Paul picking the guy's brain.

Graphene Lab Inc. - a startup out of Long Island - showing off some COOL Filament. They gave me a NICE Sample size - of a Magnetic filament. Which - may indeed solve the problem of connecting my TetraHedra Building Blocks together - via small steel balls between the sides! I gotta try that ASAP!!!

I also met up with Fleks3D - the guys w/flexible build plates and the successful KickStarter. I also did a short video of them - which I plan to post soon.

Anyway - that's it for now - hopefully Paul will also make a reply.

L8r,
-K-

Nice synopsis. Note, I never get any good stories or info from the keynotes or formal presentations from any of these kind of shows. It always comes form the exhibit floors.

It seems to me that the NYI3DP is not all that much more then the Santa Clara version and I'd expect the same from the San Diego version. I may go to San Diego anyways.
I guess one question I have for you is how would you compare this show to the previous now that Meckler has sold out?

BTW, I know this may sound a bit nutso, but I am getting scary GOOD output from the Rep Gen5 w/Smart Ext+ they sent me. No clogs and a print quality that is on a par with my CloneR1. OTOH it's an expensive, noisey PLA only machine, but I'm just sayin...

How do the speeds compare?

TobyCWood

to 3D Printer Tips, Tricks and Reviews
Of course, the RepG5 has a slower speed. It behaves as though ACC is set to about 250, so it always sounds as though it's starts slow speeds up and then slows before it changes direction even with short lines. It usually takes about 20-30% longer on the RepG5 then it does for other machines I have that are running at about 80mm/sec. Then there's the clicking from the nozzle snapping upwards for travels... You can't keep it in the office. It has to be out in the garage.
Yeah, I know... slower will always make for a better output, but compared to what I saw with the Mini, it's easily good enough for their intended mkt; Education.

I don't know - Honestly - the Carbon 3D looks like they are doing Hot stuff - especially materials wise - as I reported in 1st writeup.

Show was SMALLER this year - last year better - as they highlighted artistic design in a whole area - NOTHING like that this year - Thus, Honestly - DAMNIT - Downhill it went...

Just being honest!
