I have recently realized that we need 3MF. So I've started a crusade and made this video. I hope it'll convince you to join in:

Remember the Microsoft moto: "Embrace, extend, eliminate."

An interesting comment from the MSDN forum (by a moderator) in response to the question "I have an 3d model STL file which I need to print with 3d printer. Can anyone help me out with printing the STL files ?" The mod's answer? "3D Manufacturing Format (3MF) is the correct format to be printed, I'm not familiar with STL file, and how to translate it to 3MF."

Doesn't inspire confidence.

You're right, it's objectively a better format than STL but... well... Microsoft.

I still don't get why we need/want 3MF after AMF did the same thing and failed to catch on.

This dude isn’t a ms employee - he’s just an enthusiastic nerd who posts a lot and got moderator status somehow on msdn community.

STL clearly doesn’t work with multicolor prints - much more common as palette and e3d toolchanger get adopted.  3MF addresses that.

I believe next version of Kiss supports loading STEP files for the purpose of multicolor/material printing.

Understood re:Mod.

Yeah - I know - STL is very basic - that's why I said new file format better - for things like color as an example.
