Yup - I'm prepping for my Exhibit at the Faire. Figure I would put a little update here to the Group.

I have this Back Scratcher which I made on my MakerBot CupCake back in Feb. of this year. But, alas - it was just sold recently in Stony Brook where I had an Exhibit of my Stuff. So - I figured - considering my conundrum where I can't properly finish all the Plastic in my Mojo Cartridges (because - ah, gee - as everyone already knows -  the Mojo will NOT print a job if there is NOT enough plastic in a Cartridge) - I decided I would clean out a BUNCH of my Mojo Cartridges by printing little jobs or Insignificant jobs (cause - ah, yeah - NO WAY I am normally going to Experiment or do BS print jobs on my Mojo - cause its TOO Expensive to do that!). So - this update is About those kinda prints, including a Re-Print of my Back Scratcher - but, on the Mojo - and, it should be interesting when I calculate the Final cost (of plastic) for this item! Also, in the pic - besides the PARTS of the Back Scratcher - which I am STILL Putting together - you will see these straight pieces above it - which I am also going to assemble and apply to the Under-side of the scratcher - to give it stability. Lastly, for the Mojo - they give you a couple of Sample files - and one is called the Mojo-Man, and that's the little character you see. That Black build plate - with those kinda vertical bumps - that is MORE of the Mojo Men - but, the Support material is STILL Attached!

At the Faire - although I will NOT be bringing my Mojo - I WILL Bring the Bathe System - and show it to everyone IN Action - including dissolving the Supports on the Mojo Men!

Also - notice the Build plate - its DIRTY! Well - some of the folks here - who have been "following me" -will know about the Throw Away build plates on the Mojo! WEll - guess what - found a Work Around to RE-USE The Build Plates! And - that's what you see here...

Lastly - that little plastic Logo - its my Initials. I printed TWO of them - the other one I actually inserted into the Scratcher - as you can see - and I poured liquid plastic into that kinda Hexagon shape - and then settled the other Logo down and on top of that plastic - and pushed it in a little - and it worked out GREAT!

And - lastly - I will be bringing my Liquid plastic to the Faire. I even thought of doing something FREAKY - like taking a large square piece of wood - and pouring the liquid plastic onto it and creating some Strange kind of Abstract Art. But, not sure if I will actually do that...

Anyway - See You Folks at the Faire - for Those of you who will be around!

L8r,

It's on the Ultimaker website:

Looks good, but not much technical detail given. 1895 Euros.

It is beautiful! And they boldly proclaim 0.02mm "quality" (I'm assuming they mean layer height). I wonder what they've done with that hot end design. Nice build area. Kind of pricey, but I've got high hopes.

BTW guys, I saw the new Ultimaker in person. They quoted me $2500 for US pricing.

It is a very good remake of the machine with all new materials and no longer laser cut.
The mainboard is still a mega2560 so to maintain compatibility with existing firmwares and those guys got a worried look on their faces when I mentioned the blue OLED for the display are known to show burn-in of the image over time.

So cool factor is very high and the new extruder is very nice. The new board is an all in-one with built on stepper drivers much RAMBO rather than a shield and Pololu style setup like RAMPS.

I think the updated look gives MakerBot and others a run for the money.

Again, a very nice and well built machine and it should sell well.
The prints from it looked very nice as I saw one actually printing the Ultimaker robot.

As to details on the hot end. It is an all new design and has active cooling of the thermal barrier tube and the print with a pair of ~25mm fans.
I was highly impressed as they really did a major overhaul of the design.

The gantries also use molded parts instead of the laser cut slider blocks.

Thanks for the report!

I wonder if they're set up for serious production. Did they quote a delivery time?

Are they doing any better with infill?

Honestly, I can't really say on the infill, but I will take a closer look today and report back.
Honestly, the machine is far more accurate, the new extruder/hotend  is much lighter but also a very impressive design and you guys know how picky I am on stuff like that.
Again, it looked good and seemed to print well enough, but the example I saw wasn't the best way to judge it and I only had a short time watching it print and it was elevated on a pedestal so I couldn't see the infill.

Again, the worst comments I have are:
The price $2500 which is too much IMO, but hey, that's just me
The OLED may show burn-in over time since that is just how OLEDs are, especially blue.

Pros are:
All new frame style and method of cutting (no more wood with laser burn marks from the smoke)
Built in bright white LEDS
All new hot end/ extruder and it is quite impressive by my standards
Better molded motion axis parts.
New Mainboard that is all in one. Some new added features related to temperature safety cutoffs, but not any radical departure from the current architecture.
Better Z stage
Stunning looks- maybe even Mac like. It does look like it belongs in the Apple store.

MakerBot =Black, Dark Vader style
New Ultimaker = White, Aluminum and Stainless, very Apple'ish feel

What was the problem with infill? Something about under/over extrusion
or a slicer issue?

This thread is useless without pictures.  Seriously - no one thought to take pictures?!?! :)

At least I got to watch the U2 unveiling - I'm sure it killed them to have to release it without the Marlin2 electronics.

Hmm, The only time I've seen that problem is when the short belts are too loose
or too tight. One time one of the set screws had come loose and was slipping
a quarter rev each time the motor would change direction and showed up as sloppy
infill like that.

I've not seen that with a specific slicer (as in, I doubt it's software related), and I use
just about all of them.

Just pictures. I also gave out about 200 cards. Expect many vendors to join the group. They promised to keep advertising to a minimum and just let us know what is going on. There will be many new interesting people such as Cereberus from Thingiverse and Joe Prusa and many startups.

Next up - Video of a REALLY Huge 3D Printer (although somewhat Vaporware - as its not really printing yet)...
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DLuJemQOelI

Now - I was originally planning to bring my Mojo 3D Printer - but, its just TOO Big & a PITA to move - as well as an issue if anything happened to it. So - I decided NOT to bring it - and only brought the Bath system. And, Thur. night I printed on my Mojo another one of my Bus. Card holder designs. So - this is my fishing it out of the Bath:

And - here is a pic of my "GingerBread" house construction Kit:

Also - there were these guys behind me - with these AWESOME Delta bot type designs - and, when packing up on Sat. night - they had a colored light (Black Light?) - and were checking out their space under the weird light - and one of my buddies working my booth put my Alien Head sculpture under that light!

OK - U guys are funny! Especially you Joe!

Bill - sorry about the videos. Being at the Faire was crazy - I had VERY Little time to SEE the actual Faire - as most of the time i was at my booth. And, it was overwhelming - so much to see - so, I admit i was in a rush when I took the Videos - and I am also relatively new at taking videos with the iPhone!
