Well like we talked about on IRC, I'm personally not too fond about Disqus either but for other reasons than the one you mention.
Some things get a little confusing on the site for example:
- Avatars from people are inconsistent. Under the authors section, Tracy has a random (generated) avatar now. When she logs in she sees her (old) Facebook picture because she logged in before using the Gigya Social login. As for myself, I've finally managed to get a consistent gravatar but I use http://gravatar.com for it which returns your avatar based on your email address but....
- Gigya social login accounts do not add a user's email address in the local Wordpress database. Something about Facebook/... not giving this email address on a connect through there. So I already have a fair amount of blog user accounts without any email address but....
- I would like the Expertise area I'm working on only to be visible to signed-up users. I would like to have those signed up users' email addresses.
As you see, plenty of challenges still ahead. I would like to try out some more comment systems/styles, one of my requirements is that comments can *at least* be displayed threaded. I'll keep you guys posted when I find something but feel free to suggest something.
Something else; Yu Yu has been subtly pressuring me to install another theme, she like Thesis (
http://diythemes.com/thesis/) a lot. I also showed her another one that I happened to find when helping somebody, called 'Comfy' (
http://deluxethemes.com/comfy/). Both have in common that they cost money but I'm willing to shell out some money for a good looking theme as long as I get an impression that everybody who's an author is at least somewhat serious about building the site. Currently I'm not convinced everybody is... So let me know if you are and if getting another theme/commentsystem/consistency fixes will encourage you to do what authors do... write articles! If we can get some concensus I'll shell out some money for the best we can agree on.
Phil? James? Fernando? you there? :-)
