I've been posting a few of little blurbs like these lately:

http://wordpress.3dn.nl/2010/01/26/google-founders-want-less-power/

Curious if this is a good way to drive visitors to the site. I write
some heavy and longwinded articles as well on the identity management
stuff and getting quite a bit of visits on those articles. People who
read the longer articles will usually click through and stay on the
site longer but little blurbs like these may also be good to capture
the attention of an entirely different audience. Where do you guys
think we should find the balance or would you rather focus on long and
detailed articles that don't get cluttered by posts like this one?

Fred, I like the succinct, direct articles. Even though the detailed
articles are a great resource, I would normally put off reading them
until I have a quiet moment to sit and absorb... which never
materialises.

Go for a few 'soundbytes', I would say!

Well I try to think of it as 'our blog' instead of 'my blog'. I personally also like the short blurbs but they can seriously overshadow the articles that aim to reach a more loyal crowd, never mind that they overshadow articles other people may put a lot of time in writing but which get pushed off the frontpage real quickly if there's many short articles on day to day technews.

Maybe a good idea before posting a link to any technology related news through twitter / facebook; Write a short story about it yourself, refer the article you got the 'scoop' from and post the link to the techblog to facebook/twitter. It's not like most of these other websites post all original stuff right?
