I'm trying to follow the instructions for downloading and compiling
Rei, 3Di's browser based opensim viewer.

I'm stuck at the installation program for Git.

Which of the following two choices should I make:

1. Use Get Bash only
2. Run Git from the Windows Command Prompt.

Option 2 says to make sure I don't have Cygwin's Git installed. I do
have Cygwin installed as a result of compiling LibSL. Does that mean
that I have Cygwin's Git installed? I don't know enough about Cygwin
to know if installing Cygwin means that Cygwin's Git has to be
installed or not.

Given no response to my preceding message, I went ahead and used
option 2, to Run Git from the Windows Command Prompt.

The path to get was apparently not added to the path in the currently
open command prompt window. However I added the path to Git to the
command line shown in the instructions and appeared to successfully
Git the main program source files.

However, there is no Compile.bat in the SRC folder as referred to in
the instructions on how to compile from the command line .

Apparently you have to run the file RunPreBuild2008.bat, which creates
the Compile.bat.

There are numerous messages of warnings, missing files, etc. produced
byexecuting runprebuild2008

Then running Compile.bat produces 28 warnings (in yellow text) but no
errors

Then running the standalone viewer, I get advised that my graphics
card, a Radeon x800, is not supported.

Then the OpenViewHost window appears, with 10:0.1.81:10001 filled in a
field , and test filled in to two fields, with some asterisks filled
in a forth field.

Clicking the button at the bottom of what must be the login screen
causes the words
"3Di OpenViewer" or something like that to appear. It went away faster
than I could read it while typing this.

Then the dialog window changes to pink, with some text in a scrolling
window that I can't read, since it's not in English, with a button
labeled OK.

Clicking OK causes the "Login" screen to appear again as it did
before, with 10.0.1.81:10001 and test and test and some asterisks
filled in.

Presumably I need the proper numbers for an opensim and the first and
last names of an opensim account and the corresponding password to
fill in.

Assuming that my x800 can run it despite being not supported.

Hi,

Thanks for trying the rei viewer.

1. Git
We have found that Cygwin's git isn't reliable on Windows, so we
recommend Msysgit instead. There is no problem in installing both,
since Cygwin's git is only available from the Cygwin terminal, and
Msysgit from Windows command prompts . So, just open a command prompt
and issue the git commands from there.

2. Login

The fields on the login screen are:
a. Login URI without the http prefix (for example: osgrid.org:8002)
b. first name
c. surname
d. password

3. Graphics card
This is simply a warning that appears when you are using a card that
hasn't been tested yet. Let us know if there are problems
(http://github.com/3di/3di-viewer-rei/issues)

Hope this helps,
Johan Berntsson
