Can anybody suggest a reasonable DVD/decoder package that will work with
the Voodoo3 3000. The FAQ included with my board suggests that some
cards use a different method to passing data to the graphics card and
need a software patch.

the 3 dvd's i've watched worked pretty well without a hardware decoder.
i think as long as your cpu is pretty fast, you should be fine with
software decoding. i'd rather spend the $$ on a faster cpu and get more
than one use out of it. i even got through "the matrix" with a struggle
at some scenes (required fast-forward through particular frames). that
is one screwed up dvd. seems nobody can play it correctly. the other
dvd's didn't have any frame dropping issues at all.

just my $0.02.

the problems with the matrix are usually with the dvd drive itself. 2X dvd
drives don't like it. although even if you have a faster one, having the latest
revision of PowerDVD is pretty helpful.

as for hardware decoders, the Hollywood Plus line is very good, and compatible
with just about anything out there.

I can't get my Creative labs pc-dvd decoder to work with my Voodoo3 3000
running WinME.
I would go with the Hollywood if you get a decoder card. (add another $0.02
worth)

Sigma Designs RealMagicHollywood+ works fine with my V3 2K AGP. No software
patches.
