PCI graphics card is a s3 virge dx/gx 35/385
installed dx7a
has worked ok for some time!

Then I got the 3d blaster card recently.

installed creative 3d blaster voodoo2 using standard drivers (Creative
Blaster Voodoo2 2-15-1998)
* Voodoo2 DirectX Driver Version: 2.16 RC1
* D3D Voodoo2 Driver Build Number: 4.10.01.0053 RC1

using downloads for Windows 9x I updated with latest 3dfx voodoo 2 drivers
for dx7 (voodoo 2 3d accelerator) -
http://www.3dfxgamers.com/drivers/voodoo2/v2-w9x-3.02.02.exe.
reinstalled dx7a

I got FATAL EXCEPTION 0D at 0028:C14FBDFE in fxmemmap.vxd

I get this ANY WHERE including DX setup, running games or the control panel
for 3dfx ........

THEN changed driver under system to original "oem creative 3d drivers" (but
they are for dx5)
now only when I boot into WIndows 98 I get error

WINDOW: RUNDLL
Error in 3dfxv2ps.dll
MIssing Entry:updateregsettings

however it does let me go into dxsetup now and run games etc.

How do I get latest drivers to work and sort out any registry issues !!!

I have downloaded 3dbvw95 and testing but this only support DX6 which is a
problem because I have DX7 loaded.

Please can anyone Help.
Thanks
Tony

Delete your driver for voodoo card. Extract reference drivers to a folder.
Reboot. Computer should detect new card. Show it where to go ie the folder
you extracted drivers to. The error message re updatereg settings is because
you changed the drivers to the oem and not the 3dfx reference drivers. You
can rid of this message by delving into the registry or just ignore it. Also
go to www.voodoo.com and get wickedgl (1.6mb d/l) better fps with most
games.

if i'm not wrong there is a patch for you're problem at www.s3.com because
of some incompatiblity with a V2.

At the moment I have settled on using the driver update software from
Creative and not from S3, as this is all that would work.

I managed to sort out the reg settings error by hacking out of the startup
"RUN" section.

However whever I tried installing drivers from 3dfx, I would get the fatal
exceptions just about everywhere so unless the remove driver suggestion you
made works I guess I would have to try and reinstall Windows (which I dont
want to do).

Anyway at least the card is working right now!
The file I couldnt get to work is V2-w9x-3_02_02.exe but I also tried v3_03
beta and that was just as bad.

In the end I figure the OEM manufacturer must have the more reliable driver
! I am going to do my best to get the latest driver working though, and who
knows maybe a reinstall would be a good idea.

I am downloading the latest s3 virge dx drivers too, although this has
caused problems before with non-functioning drivers too sometimes, so I have
had to swap them about a bit.

I also updated my system BIOS (a QDI board) from 2 to 2.3 and that killed my
mouse (intellimouse ps2) so I had to revert the flash on that too !

My registry (system.dat) currently stands at 4Mb and I think this is a bit
big really so maybe I will get round to a nice new install at some point !

Cheers
Tony

It works now, using the latest beta drivers (I think this was your
suggestion)
I must have reinstalled dx7 and has cured the problem. ??? after much
deliberation

At least it is fixed. I too have a creative voodoo and diamond stealth 3d
2000 (s3 virge). The updated creative drivers refused to work( system hangs)
so that is why I now use 3dfx reference ones. 3.02.02. Also on dx7. This all
came about when I upgraded to an Athlon700 from a P200. Some will say it is
athlon and others will say it is dx7. Who knows. I would suggest you also
get wickedgl as this can improve fps in games a lot better than 3dfx
drivers. Rune will testify to that. He is the resident expert on testing fps
etc. :-)

Re another post about s3 fix this was for only on certain versions which
caused black screen.
