Nothing wrong with the card you mentioned though, if the s3 virge is built
into your motherboard you may have some probs.

For 2D, yes. For 3D, no.
It's not that bad, it's just that it's not that good either. For 3D
stuff I mean. In 2D it'll be absolutely fine. Just buy a V2 and you'll
be OK.

I think he means MATROX (specifically, the new G400, which STILL hasn't
shipped yet in any sort of volume). Until (and unless) Matrox solves their
technical support problems, I refuse to recommend ANY Matrox product for any
reason.
Instead, for a Pentium-200 (or equivalent), I recommend Voodoo2 (with either
an ATI or TNT card to handle the 2D duties), a Banshee, or possibly a V3
2000 PCI (which is little more than a V2 these days).

Dreamcast does not outperform all computers at gaming nor will it ever.
Look at the specs of the Dreamcast. Low memory, slow CPU cycles, etc. etc.
Get real.
Because the Dreamcast used the PVR chipset, this makes me NOT want to have
anything to do with it. Sega has screwed me so hard in the past I am still
sore. Can you say $400.00+ for one of the first 5 Saturns in Michigan?
That was the Saturn and an extra controller (as it only came with one in the
box). This was right after buying Sega-CD for Genesis, then expanding that
to 32x. 32x games were dropped soon after. 32x CD games were supposed to
kick ass. They sucked ass was more like it, that is the 10 or so that were
released. I sold my Saturn to a sucker 20 months ago along with 4 games and
immediately added some money to the selling price, went to Toys-R-Us and
bought a secong generation Playstation which I still have. I took my other
games to a store, traded them in, and bought a few Playstation games with
the credit. The ONLY thing better on the Sega than the Sony system was the
audio playback functions, that's it. And that was only because Sega used a
Yamaha sound chip in the Saturn. Sega has scorned me long ago, and they
will not do it again. When the Playstation 2 comes out, I will buy it for a
few reasons. #1, DVD playback on my TV. #2, backwards compatability with
my current PSX games. #3, the ability to walk away from this friggin PC,
turn on the Playstation and play a game WITHOUT a blue-screen, spending 20
minutes coniguring a game, and without dimming the lights and spinning the
power meter at 10,000rpm by turning this Frankenstein like machine on. I
will always have a PC if only for games like Kingpin that will never be
fully released in all their raunchiness on any console system due to the age
of most of the users, but even though I am not a kid anymore, I can only now
appreciate the ability and simplicity of turning it on with one button and
playing a game a few seconds later. That is why I still play Command and
Conquer on my Playstation to this day. Less stress. But if I really want
good graphics (or better at least) I turn on my PC and liqify my brain
dealing with buggy drivers, crappy support and corporate lies in a lame
attempt to achieve the "ultimate gaming experience". Hasn't happend yet,
but maybe I'll see it before my reflexes are hinderd by artheritis.
I hope Sega gets Quake2 on the Dreamcast and the console players can join in
on Gamespy servers. I will be there to humiliate them with my PC.
As for the Q3 timedemo, there is not a timedemo included, therefore one must
RECORD a demo to use. This is easy to do and make it to give the desired
results. This is why no decent magazine uses Q3 timedemo yet.
As for OpenGL support on the PVR250, this is negotiable. I saw ONE mention
of OpenGL on the site concerning the PVR250, and 2 mentions of "OpenGL
PowerVR" support. This sounds like Quake2 PowerVR support, which is
"PowerVR GL" in the game, which is actually a more accurate description.
PowerVR uses GL commands to achieve textures and shapes, but in a different
manner than true OpenGL. The 2 are close, but not compatable.
At this point, I repeat, QUAKE3 TEST DOES NOT SUPPORT POWERVR!!! Gazing
into your crystal ball and saying "therefore Q3Arena and everything else
WILL support it." is nothing short of a lie. If you're in close with John
Carmack, have him post about future supported video modes of Quake3. I'm
sure we'd all like to be enlightend.
And Benchmarks from a 98 edition of a magazine? Do you know how many TNT
driver versions have been released since then? Are you really this far
behind that you read 18 month old magazines?
So next time YOU post, maybe you should try getting recent information and a
general working knowledge of video systems before you make another 1/2 assed
attempt at sounding informed.
and KBS0 was nothing more than a tormented teen-ager desperately seeking
attention. He left as soon as others ignored him, which is what people may
want to do the next time you give a lenghty incorrect summary of some
"vaporware" board that you want to argue about.

Q3Test 1.08, 1.07 and 1.06 ALL support timedemos properly. 1.05 was the only
version with a broken timedemo. It's even in the whatsnew file.
>Q3 does NOT support PowerVR.
This statement is not correct either. Although Q3Test does not support the
original PowerVR chipset, the new 250 chipset definately has full OpenGL
support, and therefore Q3Arena and everything else WILL support it.
The chipset is the same chip used in the Dreamcast console, and if you know
anything about Dreamcast you will know it surpasses any PC at the moment
(although the PC will quickly catch up and overtake, as usual
Benchmarks? PC Format issue 98.
With BETA drivers, the 250 clocked up 53.4 at 1024x768 using the Quake2
CRUSHER demo. That surpasses the TNT2 Ultra, which gets 49.6 on the same
spec machine, same demo (P3 500)
>And by the way, this PVR250 DOES utilise CPU functions, it is NOT
independant of the CPU.
True, but the PVR250 is a third gen chip, NOT a fourth gen. It's not
supposed to be competing with the NV10. Videologic may well release an
updated version with T&L
Don't get me wrong. I'm not planning on buying this chip or any chip until
I've read the reviews. But this chipset looks like it will beat the other
3rd gen chips into the ground.
So next time you post, maybe think about what you are posting and do a bit
of research. And get rid of your attitude problem, you don't need to insult
everyone who has a different view to you.
But at least you're not as bad as KBS0DW ;)

from its specs is

Yes, I am looking forward to doing that if it is possible. But that is just
because the controllers witll suck for fps games.
> As for the Q3 timedemo, there is not a timedemo included, therefore one

> RECORD a demo to use. This is easy to do and make it to give the desired

uhh... Q3Test 1.06 and 1.07 has two inbuilt timedemos, q3testdemo1 and
q3testdemo2, and Q3Test 1.08 has two, renamed (and only renamed, not
changed) to q3demo1 and q3demo2
Shall we go and try them out?
go to console
timedemo 1
demo q3testdemo1 OR q3testdemo2
or if you have 1.08
demo q3demo1 OR q3demo2
So, Q3Test *does* have timedemos fixed in the later versions, and it *does*
have inbuilt timedemos, so it *is* possible to do reliable timedemos for a
benchmark with
q3test. They are both quite intensive on the framerate too.
Why don't magazines use them yet? I don't know is the answer, although I
know that because they have to write the magazine during the month before it
is published (of course), they may not have had access to the later versions
of q3test yet. Who knows? But I think we will start to see timedemos coming
out
So can you now admit that you were wrong on that point? I'll respect you a
lot more for it.

*sigh* do you really think that they are sooo stupid as to not support
q3test? Nobody will ever release a card that does not support it. Why don't

I said you weren't as bad... and you are the one who is incorrect, friend.
Firstly you claim that the q3test timedemo is broken, and then when I tell
you it is not, you don't apologise for your mistake, but you carry on and
make another false statement, that I have just again proved wrong.
Misinformed, that's all 'but you can cure misinformation with knowledge', as
you said not so very long ago.
Hey, calm down. Stop shouting.
As for "lying Brit faggot" well, you're on thin ice here. I'd shut it
if I was you. Most Americans are descendents from the good ol' Irish,
and where is Ireland? Sure as hell ain't in the US is it? Great
BRITAIN.
Good shot in the foot there!
Whoah, calm down. I was just merely pointing out you seem to correct
people's mistakes first and foremost. No need for the moral high
ground.

PowerVR is dead.
Al Capone
Bran, I really don't care about your feelings. What I do care about is
accurate information and people learning the correct answers right from the
get-go. I HAVE dominated in this newsgroup for over a year. Where have YOU
been? Maybe you should go check out DejaNews and take a look at this NG's
postings for the past 12 months before your "feelings" get hurt any more.

Now take your english head out of that mutton bowl and try talking about
something that has to do with hardware or software. This is a Voodoo2
newsgroup, not a hereditary clinic for the inbred challenged.
Al Capone
Well done! You have reearnt my respect!

Honestly, I don't care about your respect. I only care about facts.
