It's been a while.. time flies..
I have not been updating this email list, but there has been some good progress made.
I hope some of you will make it to SigGraph, or forward this invitation to interested party, so we can meet in person.
Last SigGraph we talked about possible use cases. The group consensus was to focus on web browser viewer. I have been working for AMD since, and I was approved to spend time on the rest3d project. Also, recently it was approved to create an open source project where I can publish the code, and have a place for collaboration.
So, I am glad to announce
github.com/amd/rest3d, and invite you to take a look. I'll present this at the SigGraph BOF (and will post the presentation after for those who cannot attend).
The BOF is TUESDAY, 23 JULY 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM | Anaheim Convention Center – Room 202 B
The rest3d javascript client is able to directly parse COLLADA XML, but for the purpose of a web viewer, it is important to provide a format that better suitable to WebGL. I have been working with the Khronos glTF group to design such a format. It also is designed in the open, at
https://github.com/KhronosGroup/glTF.
I hope to see you next week, or/and on this mailing list. As you can see it is slowly taking shape, and there are lots to discuss about what was done, and what needs to happen.
Best Regards
