REST for X3D JSON (not glTF), X3D XML

What is the potential for using a similar REST API for X3D JSON and X3D XML?  Has an API document been published?

Hi John,

 There was a lot of work on the API, which now is based on websockets, and work done on the server to stream the data of the model in the order preferred for the client. Data is streamed using gltf format, but could be converted from any other format to begin with.
