I remember YEARS ago people playing with Wood filled PLA and doing this thing where if you Drastically changed Temps during printing - you could kind of Burn the wood - making it darker - and looking MORE like REAL wood - with patterns in the print jobs!

Does ANYONE know What the Heck I am Talking about???

Happy MGK Day (as that's what it is here in Cleveland!)...

Another old fart printer here, I believe I built my first kit printer ( a local guy's) back around 2011 after hanging out with the local group a couple years.
So yes not only do I remember wood filled, but I have used it. For best results ( to avoid clogging) i used a .8 nozzle. I program cnc's so modifying the program with temperature  changes was easy. You could get woodgrain like effects. You just had to be careful not to burn it.
I also had "polywood" ever hear of that?
It had like micro glass bubbles i think? So it simulated wood by its feel. It was really fun stuff to play with. Made tons of fuzzy bear give aways. I wonder if polymaker still makes it?

Do you recall if there were any interesting you tube vids or websites that show what you experimented with?
At first glance I found this Video but it looks sketchy as feck, essentially burning the PLA as it goes down... and whilst I have no doubt that my H2D could handle that, I don't really want to be exposing my nozzle etc so willingly to burning molten PLA/wood.

No video's that I know of. I think  I took some pictures of parts I made, will try to find them. It has been several years since I played with it.

I never heard of that. What I do know if first hand is that “wood” filled was total crap.
It smelled like wet cardboard and the esthetic was horrible. It provided zero value.

Gosh David - I did NOT Realize until now - that you were an OLD Printer Fart like me (gosh - word juxtapositions makes that sound funnier)...

I appreciate  your feedback on this. I also know Sophie appreciated your reply as well.

A few months ago - back in Feb. - I did a paid little gig work for someone from this forum - who is no longer here. It was about finding Things to print for a Wood filled PLA. I searched thru TONS of objects. As I was doing it - I realized there were VERY FEW GOOD versions of a 3D Printable unit to drop in your Cell phone and have it act like a Speaker. And, I'd seen some wild stuff in the past, in the 3DP world - regarding this kind of unit. I told the dude I wanted to do a Special custom 3D Design of a kind of unit like this - and print it in Wood filled PLA. He was going to send me a free spool of filament - but, alas - I ended up moving to Ohio - for this job. So - yeah - so far, I have not done work on this potentially cool and fun project...

We are OPF's lol.... The group is larger than you would think.
I haven't had any luck finding any pictures of the wood projects.  So much of what I have done is for other people.  It's easy to forget to take pics in the middle of a project.
Will keep looking.

P.S. I was a bit of a lurker here ever since the big google groups changeover years ago. But I wanted to say I have enjoyed reading your adventures over the years. I have had many similarities in my machining career.  Luckily there were always plenty of opportunities in the same city.

Mr. OPF,

When you referred to "Adventures" - do you mean Mine?

Yes - there are some folks that go back to the beginning of the Desktop 3DP revolution. I do enjoy kind of bragging about that - as some folks are shocked at how long I have been doing it.

As for pics of prior prints. If it's for a customer - it can be a bit Debatable as to whether you should share pics! I did several projects for several clients when I was at SD3D in SD. And, for a couple of them - projects that were truly FUN Projects - and Specifically for projects where I created the 3D Design, then produced their 3D Parts - I did indeed ask them if I could share the projects - and I did get the go ahead. Maybe I should Re-Share a couple of those projects on here some time soon. Partially as a 3DP world Throw-back, partially to show those who have not seen those projects before - and partially just because it's fun to share. The 2 projects I speak of were my "Chocolate Hole Puncher" & the KeyFob Programming Electronics Containment Unit. Yeah - those are titles I gave the projects, 2nd one I just made it up now - 1st one - that's what I called it for years. Both were really FUN - each for different reasons...

For a project that just finished up, I printed some puppet parts in ‘Wood PLA’ from Bambu. THE goal was for the items to look like raw wood under stage lights. These were classy sculpts I 3d scanned and printed in the Bambu WOodPLA. The only paint are accents on cheeks, lips and eyes. Then a coat of clear Satin to help the facets show up under stage light. Some audience comments did mention the wood carved puppets.
