Threaded inserts are so handy on assembles.  But getting them in perpendicular to the surface can be a challenge. But not any more for me! This handy little tool is fantastic! And only $53 on Amazon. And it even includes the solder iron. I can't buy parts for that price. Anybody else use Threaded inserts?

Ed,

I keep being tempted to build one of these.  Thanks for sharing

I get them in perfect in the following way:
1. I prep the hole it will go into with a beveled edge
2. I use a long bolt to hold the insert, but I thread a nut on then a large washer first. The washer butts up against the insert both held in place by the nut.
3. I heat the insert (holding the bolt with a pliers) with a small torch for about 9 seconds.
4. When I put the insert into the hole I butt the washer up against the object which gets it perpendicular.
5. I hold it carefully by a fan to harden the material fast, then remove the bolt.
The only special tools are the long bolt, washer and nut and my small torch.
