So - an interesting little story...

I was downstairs this morning at work - to meet with a guy who is a major user of the system. After chatting with him, I go to leave his desk space - I look down - and on the floor he has this box with these colored plastic pieces. I'm looking at them - and he's like - Yeah - they are 3D Printed!

I picked up one of them, and by looking at the sides - I could NOT Tell it was 3D Printed - I SWEAR I could not see layer lines. I looked at bottom - and it did have telltale texture from a textured build plate. But, upon looking at the Top of the part - I could then see some of the lines.

So, not only was the part rather Interesting looking - I found it VERY Interesting to see a 3D Printed part used in a business process. It's some kind of customer or biz partner - and then ship small parts to us using these 3D Printed items. Consider it like a carton of eggs.

Now - honestly - I camera on my phone kinda SUCKS. That being said - here's an up close shot of the side:

And a normal shot showing the whole part:

I suspect it was printed on a CX1 using maybe like a 0.08mm layer height. At least that is my guess...

So Kurt, you’re sneaking around other people’s desks at work and looking at their stuff? Really?

Andy - WHY Would you accuse me of Sneaking???

I specifically wrote -- " I'm looking at them - and he's like..." - and that's when HE Speaks to me & says - "...Yeah - they are 3D Printed!".

I'm hoping you wrote that comment here as an attempt at Humor!

I bring in 3D Printed items to work all the time - and It gets displayed in the IT office area - and I constantly get to do "Show & Tell" of my projects. I've gotten to be REALLY Good friends with this dude who had the plastic parts at his desk. The parts really caught my eye cause there were like 4 of them in a box - and each were different colors! Then one I showed the pic of here - he actually told me to take it - and I could have it!

So there you have it...

This seems to me to be something that would be a lot more cost/time efficient to just have injection molded or vac formed. Unless it's for a very small quantity.
