I've been looking at possibly building one of their RC 4Wheelers as a project for the podcast. Finally found their assembly manual and a vid. SHEESH these things are a REAL commitment! but then...
I tried to post questions on their FB forum. Questions such as the clear window material, using Nylon for the gears, etc...and they deleted my questions!! My bet is they only let you post if you bought their files. So either they explain or we will be panning them!!

Dang - I'm shocked they would simply remove your questions! Honestly - not only does that come off as a bit unprofessional - BUTT - its kinda stupid. If your question and their input helps Other users - and if it helps You to decide you want to buy into their sets - then, Yeah - its pretty Stupid they removed your questions. Have you attempt to email them directly - or have you just given up? I'd also be interested in doing this type of RC - as I've contemplated this in the past as one of my own projects. Was originally planning to get some kind of RC car - and then simply design and 3D Print a Much more exotic body. But - you know what they say - So many Ideas - So little Time...

Very, VERY Interesting stuff Andy! No - I didn't look at the Google Doc - but, I DID go to the actual website (https://www.3dsets.com/).

What did I find Intriguing? How about a fully 3D Printable Gear box of the vehicle - similar to a Real transmission! At first, I though - nah - seriously? Can a standard printer print it - and would it work? But - then, I saw the pics of the assembled parts - and the notes about test gears printing - and, YEAH - it seems viable! I was also surprised. WTF - like 2.5Kg of plastic!?!? But, I then saw it was about 20 long when built - so I guess it makes sense! Like you - I saw the vehicles on the webpage - and am skeptical about the windshields. Its nearly IMPOSSIBLE to truly print REALLY Clear plastic parts! I suspect that's why you posted about it.  And - WOW - the video of it driving along - which you can find at the Bottom of the website - DANG - its SO SWEET! It really Almost looks like a REAL Vehicle driving along REAL Terrain! I mean - like - Full Sized vehicle for humans. So - that video is REALLY SWEET!

Wonder how easy it is to separate the main Body of the vehicle from Drive train/chassis - as in - to switch in a Completely different Model Body!

I know they say they give you GCode ready to print (on a Prusa) - but, I know they must also give STL Files - so you can slice for other printers.

I also see the provide "print plates" to print full sets of parts. But, they also provide separate parts STL files. Which is good. Since - its NOT always viable to print everything in a single run. If you have failure - then all parts fail. OR - at least - only parts below a certain height finish while others fail. Still - very interesting.

I see is $40 for most of the base models, $30 for the older model - and various prices for add-ons and upgrades, and a # of upgrade parts are actually free.

Yeah - very interesting stuff indeed Andy - thanks So Much for sharing about this.

Hey Kurt, thanks for posting the manual! Made it easy to look at. Very cool. I see the windshield is to be made of "transparent foil". That's a new expression for me. But, if you have a resin printer, you can make things that are nearly transparent. Or just make it opaque, nobody has to see out to drive anyway.

Sorry Darrell - it wasn't me that posted it - I just posted a follow-up about the website - it was Andy who posted that Doc!

They finally got back to me. They blamed it on Facebook, yet admitted that they were annoyed with my questions. I asked about the clear windshields, use of PLA Vs Nylon for the gears and if anyone know of a company that did the buggies. They're going to need thicker skin!

There's a number of things about the kits I'd be wary of including the use of bolts which thread into the plastic parts as well as the use of PLA for the gears. I can see spending the time and money to make one of these only to find you only get so much operating use before things require repair and replacement. OTOH Repair and replacement is what RC hobbies is all about. I recall the racing RC car I had over 25 years ago (I still have it but it doesn't run anymore) which did do 70 mph had to have the entire transmission gears and bearings replaced every time I ran it on the track. The thing was so fast a tiny part or pebble on the track would send it airborne. Before that I also had a 4Wheel racer buggy which did the rooster tails and jumps. Now THAT was fun. I destroyed it though. With the right materials I'd bet one could 3D Print the parts for one. I'll still look into that.

For sure though what these guys are doing is really awesome and I would like to get them more exposure. I've just got so many things in the queue right now I'm not too sure I'll take it on. At least not right now.

I don't know them but I have seen their stuff around thingiverse and I have debated a couple times building one
I tend to lean more towards the open stuff.
