I've got this idea of using the Bambu A1 fast nozzle change system, removing the latch and replacing it with a coupling mechanism to make a cheap toolchanger out of my Sovol SV08.

I would use most of the electronics from the Sovol, replace the extruder with a system that has the drive gear on the carriage and the filament path and idler on the tool, keeping the stock motor. It would come out to €50 for a 4-tool system, not including the SV08 and filament.

I'd really appreciate somebody giving me a reality check before I start spending my holidays in CAD. It would be awesome if somebody could help me think this through, or even better, join the project.

Thanks for any feedback!

Only you can decide on that.
I’ve had brainstorms that led to projects many times. Sometimes they worked and sometimes they didn’t.
Best advice I could give on it is to think about how motivated you are to take the journey to see if the idea will work or not. And do that before you spend or modify.

does it make sense to design the thing in cad and decide when I've got a better understanding of my own idea?

Considering what you want to do - and what Andy said - do NOT Do Anything until you have it all SERIOUSLY Planned Out!!!

Not having any experience with bamboo, I had to watch a video on the nozzel swap. The only part that bothered me is when inserting the new nozzel they went in at an angle, then straightened it out. That could be a tricky move, if it's needed.
Overall I think it is an interesting idea.

as far as i have seen (ive got an a1 at home) that limitation is due to the filament path on top wich i'd be modifing regardless ive started moching everything up in cad if you want to understand the idea better its looking promising in my opinion I think its doable.

the only problem ive come across so far is how to mount the nozzle to the tool since its designed to latch to the heater and has no mounting points
im debating between a clamp or drilling 2 holes in the heatsink the second is probably better but its more of a pain
