Just listened to your episode earlier today about the Elegoo X1C and figured I'd chime in before I forgot about my Anycubic S1 Combo.

I must have had it near 2 months now, I got it for about $600 which included the AMS/dryer unit.

It's not perfect, nor was I expecting it to be, but gotta say, I am quite happy with it.  So far I've only been trying to use up random rolls of pla and petg that I've had laying around half used (but in ziploc bags).

I've had random adhesion issues on the stock build plate as expected after printing for a while.  I got one of the holographic plates off Aliexpress for like $8 and that's helped with some of the PLA issues though I think the stock temperatures are a bit low from what I can tell because turning up the bed temp from like 55C to 77C seems to help frequently.

There have also been several firmware updates in the time I've had it.

The only real bigger stumbling block I ran into was a piece that I print for a company made out of PETG and it was just coming out complete garbage, like layers not adhered, and then tons of like whole strings of PETG just sticking out the side...  Temps didn't seem to help.  Finally as I was finishing just wasting the roll on messed up prints I noticed this duramic PETG (that I don't normally use) had a note on the side about recommended print speed of 70mm/s...  Sure enough, I went in the Anycubic slicer(Orca slicer) and turned down every place I saw where it was actually laying down filament and the print started to look decent before I ran out of that roll.
But I had another roll of white PETG in the AMS, switched to that and it printed perfectly with the stock high speed settings.

I've had mixed results trying to print with full contact supports.  One worked and another failed at those layers.
That and multicolor in general definitely take a lot more material and time.
Coming from mostly Ender 3 and clones and the tenlog, this printer is an interesting dichotomy for speed...  It takes a long time for it to get started to do anything and every time it switches rolls.  but once it's printing it flies.  Watching the 15 minute Benchy print from the sample prints is quite amazing...

Dunno, I'm sure I've already drone on more than long enough so I will leave it at that and if anyone has any questions, I'll be happy to answer.  From what I see in the forums I get the impression it is not as perfect as a Bambu but I'm ok with occasionally having to fiddle with broken filament stuck in the bowden tube or a cardboard roll that's not completely straight that means I leave the lid open while it's printing...

Oh yeah, I was gonna try to find that birdhouse you mentioned and just see what comes out...
