Are there 3D printers that you can't use if you had to sign a NDA?

Like could Flash Forge be sending pictures of your prints and g-code back to their company? If you are prototyping for some one ,would they want their invention being sent to a company that you have no control of network security or bad actors at their site. Has anyone been checking packet traffic from different 3D printer manufactures ? Does any one have a list of know problem companies ?

Good questions. In my experience, the way some slicers sends files through their system would not be allowed by way too many of my previous clients or employers.

The way we work it with our Bambu H2’s is they are on the public WiFi network that we have for guests.

Then we have a dedicated laptop to run the slicer which is also on that network and not the company network. 

We would have bought the H2D pro that has Ethernet, but IS dept said just get the normal one as they would probably have isolated it anyway.

This way we have admin rights on the PC and can just keep the tools up to date ourselves.

If I was still working (I am retired) and I cared about product security I would only use a printer that was either NOT connected to the internet (or wifi) or at least was firewalled so no external connection.  I would not be using bamboo studio.  I would use PrusaSlicer with no prusaconnect.  Perhaps Prusalink, but if it was important than consider a printer with NO networking hardware and put the files on a USB stick and Carry them to the printer.

Agree. Before my experience with Bambu, i always used cura->SD Card-> walk over to printer and printer. All offline.

I think if I came across a 3d printable anti gravity device I would probably want to keep it off Bambu studio. Probably have an AI filtering through everybody’s prints, picking out designs that are commercially (or hopefully not), militarily exploitable.

May have been watching too many YouTube conspiracy videos. 3D printing a foil hat as type.

I mean, what is this “Network Driver” thing  that makerworld wants you to install on the Mac (which I wont)?   I dont use bamboo printers but I go to makerworld and sometimes need to use bamboo slicer to see what on earth they changed to make their .mk3 files incompatible this week.  I mean it’s not just that they diverged from Prusaslicer they seem intent on keeping from being compatible with OrcaSlicer as well.

This discussion VERY Much relates to my work at VisionMiner.

Their standard printers were access via WiFi. However, when clients came to us for a purchase - and they were either a DOD related unit, or did work for DOD, or needed a printer to be ITAR compliant - we replaced the main controller board (either Duet or a Duet knock-off) with a board that has NOT WiFi - only Ethernet!

So - Yup - Been there - Done that...

The network plugin facilitates communication with the printers/cloud service. It uses stuff like RTSP for streaming (video/job data) between the printer and the slicer/phone app.
