I have one on reserve at MicroCenter for me right now - at about $359!

IS it really worth it? So far - for those folks in this group here that have one - seems it is!

Also - I know Elegoo is going to release an AMS for it SOON - and it's also got certain features in the machine - prepped and ready for an AMS!!!

For the money... Yes. I really like mine and it's become my go to machine for a lot of prints. Is it the absolute best printing machine.. ehh. It suffers from some pretty bad VFAs at high speed and there's been some issues with the firmware along with slow firmware development. The latest version broke the web interface so that once you start a print you can't do any actions such as pause, turn on or off the light or modify fan speed via the web interface. You can still do it at the touchscreen on the machine just not remotely. Another thing to watch for is the print head crashing and bending/breaking the thin throat tube between the nozzle and heatsink. This hasn't happened to me personally but I've seen several cases in the groups I'm in. You'll definitely want to have another hotend setup available. If the y don't have them at microcenter go ahead and order one as they tend to be on backorder. Some folks have bought the aftermarket ones on Amazon and say they work fine but they're actually more expensive then the stock elegoo ones.
And yes it is loud when printing in an enclosed area. You'll definitely want to print one of the fan"muffler" mods to quite it down. The last info that I heard from and source that referenced to any official elegoo communication said the AMS is expected sometime mid September. I've heard mixed results of folks using the default elegoo slicer orca variants. Some say the official version actually works better.

Join the official FB group there's lots of help there and Elegoo support is actually present in the discorse.

Sean - thanks SO Much for your reply - I really, REALLY appreciate it!

Thanks for the warning on some of the issues. But, What the Halibut are VFA's???  Violent Frequency Assimilitudes???

Yeah - I made that up...

Figured a websearch won't be too viable - since VFA's seems Way too specific.

As for the FB Group - I probably will have no choice but to join it. Even though Andy says how bad it sucks as a communication medium - not really Viable for Searching - and not good at Threads...

At this point - will most probably pickup the printer Tomorrow(Sun.) - then time for Big Time 3D Printing fun on Labor Day!

VFA- Vertical Fine Artifacts
I assume mostly from the rapid movements and high acceleration values.
The input shaping calibration does help but it doesn't get rid of them completely. This video has some good suggestions about improving print quality. All but the suggestion to put the Z offset in the slicer. The previous firmware, before ***.29 which is the latest, wouldn't remember the z offset. ***.29 will. But the aluto offset calibration the machine does is quite conservative and has too much squish, so you may want to do a first layer calibration to get it the way you like..

Sean - you ROCK - thanks SO Much for your replies!

I'm curious...

Is the Chamber of printer Actively heated? I suspect not. But, I should be able to print BIG ABS parts in this sucker - am I right?

And - TPU should be No Problemo - Correctamundo?

Also - it's Running Klipper - thus it can go Fast??

How about Air Filtering for plastic particles?

Yeah - I should have done More homework on this purchase (I did NOT physically buy it yet - but it IS on Hold for me on in the store) - as is - my Ender went FUBAR with a Nozzle Heater Temp issue - and, I'm at a point where I need a New SOLID Printer that will just WORK right now - as I have a Bunch of projects I am trying to push forwards on ASAP!!!

So - again - I appreciate ALL your Feedback!

The chamber doesn't have active hearing.  But as I understand it from posts on the FB group, it can print abs/asa ok but you need to start the bed heater a few minutes before and let it sit and preheat also disable all the fans. Given me not being familiar with orca it took me a minute to find where the fan setting are. They're in the filament settings, which are in a different location from the other typical print settings. I've seen some folks add insulation to the inside of the chamber walls and that's supposed to help some.

I personally haven't tried tpu as of yet but, again from FB group chat, it prints you well.

Klipper yes...kind of... It a elegoo closed source variant. You don't have user level access to configuration scripts so you can't make tuning changes if needed.
I believe you can "jailbreak" the ECC and side load Klipper. I have delved too deep into it beyond checking to see if it could be done.

Filtering isn't built in from factory but there are a couple of community mods.

Some folks go on about needing the riser for the top but I've not found a specific need for it as yet. I think I would prefer this mod

Well Andy.. you're not wrong. They aren't the best. Though they have gotten a little better especially if they're well moderated. The search function has improved slightly.
FB Groups have also added a files section that allows you to upload documents and files that can be handy.

you can easily search within the specific facebook groups now - and it pretty much shows the results just as this google groups does. And just think of the posts as the "threads". The only annoying thing is that the comments are usually defaulted in an unusual way and you have to select the filter to show "all comments" or "most recent". But you can reply to individual comments, unlike here in google groups where all comments just get listed one below another regardless of whether you do "reply all" or "reply author". And I do find that handy.

But as such facebook functionality has gotten a lot better recently. Plus, you can post videos easier than google groups, and also there isnt a dumb limit if your message is "too big" as I've experienced here on GG.

Also they have a function to reply and post anonymously now, in case you were worried about people checking your profile out - but im not sure if thats an auto setting or something the admin has to specifically turn on.

So yea, dont be too disheartened by it.

I am NOT Blaming you Andy - I simply wrote that what you have stated in the past - I TOO have Experienced it - and thus feel that FB groups are therefore NOT very user friendly and Not a great way get user support or find the help that you need!

That being said - Based upon what Sophie wrote - it seems that there are some New updates to how FB groups operate - which may make it now more viable to use as an Informational source!

Sean - thanks again for your input. I really appreciate it. And, yeah - I knew that if it is NOT Actively heated - one can simply preheat the chamber by cranking up the Bed heat in order to try and heat soak the chamber.

My WanHao D6 - I would do something like that - kinda. It was not a true Chamber - All sides were open - with a metal frame. But, I did use cardboard, with tinfoil layer on inside of printer - and make it what I call my "Pizza Box Printer":
Pizza Box Printer.jpeg

Previously the Left side also had a panel on it - and I even did a kind of cardboard flap on the front - but, obviously - both of those "Mods" are no longer in place.

The Riser mod looks cool - but, as you stated - I probably won't really need that.

Hey Sophie - THANKS SO MUCH for your extended reply and letting me know if the FB updates. Yes - I've noticed that in general - when I see comments to posts that people share - that they don't automatically show ALL comments - you kinda have to Force FB to do that.

Once I get the printer - I will indeed jump into the FB group - and see how things go...

Thanks for sharing that link. I saw another video highlighted on right side in YT - I went to it - cause the guy said he had the printer for a little while now - and he was giving new feedback. So - I'm jumped into that one - and, of course, one of the Great things about this printer is the price point - which I knew. OK - so, here's that video:     This $300 Elegoo Printer Months Later — Here’s the Truth

My First print - and it looks AMAZING!!!!!
WhatsApp Image 2025-08-31 at 6.37.09 PM.jpeg

FYI - it was on the printer - already sliced - which is why it made it the perfect First Print!

My buddy Tim from Essentium Days - who lives near me - he says - Boring print. I suggested I should have done a Megalodon Benchy instead. But, alas - I don't have that Sliced up - and now I need to learn a new slicer - in order to use this printer!

Hell yeah - it is indeed a bit Loud!

Sadly - I just got my 1st nozzle Jam! I am VERY FRUSTRATED by this - and, so far - it's NOT apparent as to how I resolve it!

Ugh...

After starting to work with the printer - I Completely see how the Riser makes sense. The space above print head - and the bowden tube feeding in - it's forced to bend More - since space is Tight - which is NOT good - thus the Riser makes sense!!! I may print it up soon!

I don't find mine to be any worse than the Ender 3 it replaced.  If anything, it's less obnoxious because the fan is far less shrill.  That said, when the auxiliary cooling kicks in it sounds like a jet engine.  I print PLA and PET with the door open and top off so the auxiliary fan never needs to kick in.

Wow - am VERY Surprised by your comments.

I honestly found my Ender 3 to be VERY Quiet when printing! Of course, I started off in this game with an MBI CupCake - and the resonance of a wooden frame is crazy - which is why acoustic guitars are made the way they are.

IN fact, I find the details printed via this Elegoo to be AMAZING!!!!

That Aux Cooling fan - I suspect that the wide and thin opening - behind build plate - when it's at the top - and yeah - when that is on - it is REALLY Loud! I think, in fact, that fan - to have it kick on for Heating up - would be a GREAT to Pre-heat the chamber for ABS printing - if you preheat the bed REALLY Hot prior to starting up a print job!

I made the riser for mine for exactly the reason you stated. To have less of a bend in the tube going into the printer head. Also this allows me to keep the top on when printing PLA, I just keep the vents open and have had zero problems.

I have had mine since its launch and never got a jam yet, however I have never reversed the filament out. I simply used the menu unload option which cuts the filament and then the rest is purged out during the load process.

Thanks for the feedback Bob. Nice to know yet another forum member here has the Elegoo Carbon. Glad to also know you have had a good experience with it so far.

I was chatting with Sophie yesterday - as I experienced the problem - discussing what I had to do - to unclog it - and discussed How it happened. I think that - even though I did the Unload kind of manually - if I had done it just a little bit differently - it may not have jammed up.

Back when I worked at Essentium - I had a process down - on how to load and unload filament from the HSE Hozzles. And, I tried to keep to a certain process - as I knew that if I didn't do that - it was at times TOO EASY to Clog a Nozzle. So - in this case - if I had done standard unload - it does this cutting with the knife - which I didn't know about. I originally assumed that the knife thing was only in the system in prep for their eventual AMS unit. Didn't think something like this was needed for a single head no AMS implemented unit. But, now I do know how to properly Unload filament - and I will NEVER Do it wrong again!

It really is a great printer for the price but I do have in the back of my mind maybe picking up an H2S. Still undecided.

The price really seals the deal for me.  I frequently see another printer, start to regret, then remember I only paid $300 for this thing and I'm happy again.

I already have an Idex so don’t really need the second nozzle and kind of could use the larger print volume so for me I think it makes sense.
