I still use simplify 3d for my older printers outside of my Centauri
Carbon because I used it for so long and have all my other profiles
tuned to my needs on that platform.
I'll use MatterControl every now and again because of its oldschool
TinkerCad integration. It's simpler to open the program locally and do
what I need rather than logging in to the web version. It also has a
nifty feature for mesh bed leveling without needing a leveling sensor.
The downside is that you must level the bed while USB-tethered using
manual movement commands. You essentially perform manual leveling at
grid points using the paper method, and the slicer logs the Z values
as you go. From then on, it uses that mesh when slicing and outputs Z
commands for the compensation in the G-code. I haven't used it that
much, outside of some experimenting with my old Printrbots.
