So - I wanted to share a special project update.

Back in 2018, before the Cross-Country Journey of The Bot-Guy (where I did Updates about it on the previous version of this forum) - I had completed a special project. I posted about that project in the other forum. I should find some of the old pics - and post the original project pics here. But...

Last year, whilst still  working at Essentium - I  returned to my chair project.  I decided to reprint the chair at a scale MUCH Bigger than the  original chair prototype I printed. Since, in 2018 - I printed a miniature about 7" tall. But, last year, I printed it in  four parts - really BIG - I think biggest part approached about 600mm tall:

Then, one of my co-workers assembled the chair:

At one point, I got a pic of me holding the chair (sharing it here - since it can give you a better idea of Scale - me, I'm about 5' 10.5" tall):

Anyway...

The update is that I am back in touch with the co. that originally hired me to design  the original chair. The purpose of the chair design was to produce it - FULL  Scale, via Rotational Molding (I'm sure some folks here are familiar with that Tech to produce Large plastic parts) - and it would be sold as outdoor furniture.

Problem is, several months after I completed the project and had by then moved to Cali - I contacted the folks - and they had canceled the project. So, the chair was Never produced for sale to consumers.

And - I gotta admit - that has bothered me for years now. The idea that I had designed something, that was supposed to be Mass Produced - but, it never happened! My plans were to eventually Revive the project - and get the chair produce via a KickStarter backing!

As such, I  recently made contact with  the co. again! Oddly, the original  owner, with whom I worked directly, he is gone now. He sold the co. and it changed hands Two times. But, I did manage to reach someone at the co. a couple days ago. I also let them know about the Chair project - of which they had NO Records of it - and I mentioned about trying to revive the project and get the chair produced.

At this point, I am still waiting to hear back from them again. I'd be Thrilled to hear if they are interested in  my project concept. Since, if it got backed via KS - then, the campaign can help cover the costs of getting the Molds produced - since that is the most Costly part of the project. And, if they were willing to essentially quote me lower costs for mold production - with the bargain that they could keep the molds and Keep producing more sets of the Chairs - AND - if they agree to do the Design analysis of the chair - at no cost to me - then this project can maybe FINALLY Happen!

I will be sure to keep folks posted about this project. And, if anyone wants to see Older pics from the original project and design work - I would gladly share them here.

So - I wanted to Revive this old thread. For 2 reasons.

The 1st reason is that I am looking to reprint this chair - but, at a completely different Scale. Kind of close in scale to the original printed prototype I did for the Client.

But, the other reason - was a fun reason. You see - back when I reprinted this chair at Essentium - it was SO BIG - compared to the original 7" tall printed model. But, the other point - my Fav coworker from the TX HQ of our co. - who was working in Irvine, CA with our team for about a month - turns out - the chair was THE PERFECT Size for his little daughter. She was So Adorable - she was - I think - about 9 months old at the time...

At one point - I found out folks were having fun - and they put her in the chair. But, they put the chair INSIDE the 3D Printer - as a Joke - like the chair and girl with all 3D Printed. But, it also shows you just HOW Massive the Essentium HSE's were:

Sorry in advance about the Low Quality of the pic.

And - for a closer look (also, if you look closely inside the back left side in the printer - at the reflective material - his Dad - my buddy Tim - can be seen in the pic):

So, the 2nd reason I wanted to Revive this thread...

I have this interesting Gargoyle type clay creature I bought a while ago. And, I realized - he needs a chair to sit in! He is on the top of my Fridge - but, a little while ago he fell - and broke off top of his left ear:

Yup - that's why I wanted to return back to my Chair project!!!

Here's a snapshot of what the chair looks like in the Slicer:
Gargoyle_Chair.jpg

FYI - the style of the chair is referred to as a Mission Style. And, yeah - the guy who originally commissioned me to produce the design - was actually Amish.

I bet my Doppelgänger would LOVE to print this for the Barbie dolls!!!

Now - I will NOT Post the file to the forum here - it's Too Public - and Anyone can Snag it. But, for folks who would like to print it - I will send this to a limited few @ of people!!!

If you would like the print file - send me a DM - to my direct email:   KurtHWendt at Gmail  D0t com

Now, I was also just now thinking - it might be fun to tweak the design - such that it could be printed in multiple colors. And, NO - I do NOT Mean Painting on the colors. Rather - I could Tweak the design so that the parts are actually made up of proper sub-unit parts. I'm sure folks understand what I mean by this.

So - if there IS an interest in folks printing the chair - AND - attempting to print in multi-colors - I will gladly do an Edit to the Design to make it easy to do so. BUT - ONLY if One or More people show a true interest!!!

About a year ago I did these.

Except for gymnastics Barbie most Barbies dont have knees the bend.  This makes all sorts of problems.

Oh ignore the toes.

Wow - I really kinda Like those chairs - I like the designs of the backs!! Although the rest of the chair is largely basic - it's still kinda cool.

I was Literally looking at the pic - and going - wait, Barbie's legs don't bend - and then I read what you wrote. Yup - makes sense!!

Finally - yoru last comment about toes - I was like - Wait - Barbie has shoes on - I see no Toes! But, alas - then I saw the bottom of the 2nd pic! Ouch! Maybe you shoulda cropped that pic!!!! Ha ha ha...

Thank you SIR for the follow-up here - much appreciated!

FYI - I scaled the chair to fit my Gargoyle - and, OUCH - Maybe I over did things. The one side part is printing now - it's 5.5 hours in - 48 min to go - and it's HUGE:

FYI - it's printing in ABS - large layers - I plan to Vapor smooth it. Although - it will NOT fit in my Acetone Vapor Smoothing unit - Ugh...

I've had issues with Organic Tree supports in the past. Even on the Carbon X1 - I've seen tree support failures. So - on my original pic of Green chair part above - you can SEE it failing - but, luckily - the print job did NOT fail!

So - In printing the next part - I selected the Stronger Organic Tree support option (I think that's what they called it in Elegoo Slicer) - and it prints a LOT Differently. And, yeah - this part is kinda HUGE - filling almost the entire vertical print volume. Sadly - the Back part of the chair does NOT Fit. But, upside - that gives me a good reason to split it into Parts - and make a Multi-color print! Anyway - here's the last part that printed - the other armrest of the chair:
