So, I bought a license of Plasticity late last year and for some reason had never used it (life got in the way)

Decided to get off my butt and use it today. It's really intuitive, especially since I can set the mouse view movements to equal Autodesk Maya so I don't have to think about it.

I have a set of ladder bars I bought for our 30 year old Toyota HiAce (Japan import 4x4 diesel van) that I'm going to put a basket on. Reviews recommended something on the ends of the bars before attaching to the uprights as bolting them tight can crack the finish and make them rust.

I made up some TPU gaskets, took maybe ten minutes from firing up plasticity until I was printing. Came out great! Bonus pic of the van they're going on (it's a work in progress)

I have been tempted to try it out, but read that it is not good for accurate dimensional parts. That it was more of a free form organic modeling program. It looks like your use contradicts that?

It's dead nuts on as far as accuracy.

What it is not is parametric. Once you do an operation, it's done unless you undo and then redo the last operation. So if you're several operations in, you can't go back in a timeline like you could say Fusion 360 as there is no timeline.  They designed the interface to be more intuitive and easier to navigate, but it is CAD.

Van looks interesting. Love the pic of your print bed - since I almost NEVER See Delta's these days! Like almost NEVER!!!
And - am glad we're in the same Autodesk Club - although you went To the Dark Side with your Maya choice - as opposed to my own Max usage!

I have been using the trial version for a month now. It is both amazing and frustrating at the same time.  Some of my frustration is from using normal cad/cam packages for years and being used to the common interfaces. I have moved across several different programs over the years. Once you have used one program, the others are similar enough that they are easy to pick up. Plasticity is very different. On the good side is real time visuals of moving solid features. Incredible power. It is useful enough for me to purchase a license. I can use mastercam for the basics, then import into plasticity for the complex operations.

try using Blender!

I tried using blender, granted it been a couple of years. I'm a machinist by trade, and I need to be able to create super accurate drawings and models in a reasonable amount of time.  Blender is so powerful yet encompasses many things I dont need, and get in the way of what I do need. It's just too much for me. Plasticity let's me bring in a model from mastercam, do some complex operations then drop back into mastercam or a slicer to get the code I need. Simple and quick. Yes that convenience cost me some money, but at least I can deduct on my taxes.

I need to get back into Blender. I've used Maya since it was Alias|Wavefront. One thing I could never get used to in Blender was the lack of history, which I use all the time in Maya.

Our own Joe Larson wrote a great book on Blender.

Saddly for me, I still find Blender so dense, I never get very far with it.

OMG - I had NO Idea that Joe wrote a Blender Book! VERY Cool indeed!!!

Will admit - myself - I'd rather learn a true CAD app - like F360. But, dedicating the time to it is complicated. Especially if I'm well versed in 3DS Max - I can just do EVERYTHING I need to do in Max. I CAN indeed even make things with Accurate dimensions.

WOW Bryan - seems you went over to the DARK SIDE Many years ago!!!

It's an old joke - of Max vs. Maya. Hell - around the time Autodesk bought up Maya - people were saying - "Are they gonna merge Max w/Maya - to create a Single product called Mayax???"

I actually did a class in Maya - around 1.0 release - at the NYU CADA Center in NYC. It was indeed interesting - and fun. But I found Maya more complicated than Max. I've been using Max since 3DS for DOS 1.0 in 1990. First taught a 3D CG Class at Pratt Inst. in 1996 - which was Intro. to Anim. using 3DS for DOS 4.0 release. But, alas - next semester - they switched to Max - and I had to ramp up FAST! So - That's when I first bought a license of Max. My then boss, where I worked as a contractor/consultant programmer at a Mid-sized account firm in NYC (I re-wrote the front end of a database system that tracked all employees of Bloomberg worldwide) - and my manager was like - WTF? - you're going to purchase a $3K SW package - and you don't even run a 3D Design Biz!?!?!?

That was a VERY Funny talk back then -- He really was shocked!

Too bad 3D Printing hit the scene AFTER I had completed my teaching work at Fashion Inst. of Tech. in NYC - which ended in 2008. Otherwise - I would LOVED to have introduced a course to the school in 3D Printing and DFAM!!!
